Desire The Sincere Milk Of The Word
5/21/2023

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

1 Peter 2:2 KJV
2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:

Today we start with a short verse but if you want the meat of this message you going to have to scroll to the bottom and read I Chronicles 17:1-15. God ask why David did not build him house? I do not think of this passage as inquiry but more of a question to David. David was man of God and he did feed God's people. Yet he did not build him a house. Neither did Christ build a physical building for God in the since of something of brick and mortar but feed the people in the field and in the house build by man the Temple and Synagogues of God. Revelence of the temple the revelance of where David and Jesus feed the people. David knew what it was like to sleep under the stars. It was probably the most restful place he lived, because not only had he learn the sounds at night but it was a place he understood. It the same as carrying his sling shot or heavy kings armor. David comfort zone worship place was in the open field before his God, the place he feed his father sheep and no doubt had discussions with others sharing the word of God with each other and teaching each other the things of God. The kingdom Jesus and David was building was spiritual. Many of King David songs writen down. Many understood as songs from the heart and questions from the mind and the answers within. It was not that David was not a son to God by faith, he lack one thing, his mindset was not originally on the building a building for the ark of God but to conquer the enemies of God. David call was not to build but to destroy. Solomon was a king that God would show mercy to even in building of his house. Solomon was a builder not with his hands but his vision of what was to be accomplished during his reign by others. There people that can build and their people that will tear things apart.

As babe in Christ it not our job to tear down or to build up but to desire the word of God. Solomon would not be a man that desired God's word in the beginning but by the end of his life he desire the word of God. God's word was secondary to Solomon though he asked great things of God. He would build even the false gods a temple and build bridges and roadways. He had a call to build. Yet his own life he failed at building his home, his dominion, though he had many many wives and children, he also slaughter many of his own infants on the altar of Astrothe. He did not build his family in faith but allowed them freedom to choose. In the process he gave Solomon much mercy for his call was to bring them to the life style of Israel not the fellowship of Israel. David was a fellowship king.

As new believers he calls to be like David in the desire of the word of God the desire of God's grace and mercy, but also to feed the flock of God no matter where you are along the road of faith. He calls his people to faith, not the absents of faith, to share to feed on the word of God. When we first learning about God as babies in Christ we desire to know all about God's grace. As we grow and study we learn more about who this God is we serve and are thankful for his mercy for saving our soul. God begins to teach us who he is, not just who man says he is, he teaches all aspects of who he is. What God teaches can cause us to tremble, without the knowledge of our salvation we know our fait would be if it was not for his mercy.

To desire God's word does not mean your in the house of God that humans built but in the house of God of faith that he building within your heart for him. Inside that heart is four chambers that pump blood through and God established to be the life pumping of human life. Without it, we do not exist. Without the word of God without Christ dwelling in our heart our soul can not survive without him. The companionship he gives our soul keeps us calm when we really want to soccer punch someone. Yet He is also the voice we need to hear to keep from throwing the fist in the fight. When we allow God's word to fight our battles as new born believers we learn to pray to seek God not only as habit but as a need in our life, to allow our heavenly Father to deal with the battle. Our focus only needs to be on Jesus to allow his word to win. Hard truth but it true.

As Israel went singing into battle the enemy ran at the time of King Jehoshaphat who trust in God to win his battle in 2 Chronicles 20:20. Singing into battle sounds ridiculous to us with knowledge of how battles are usually won. One might ask how horrible did they sing. Alot of things go through our minds here, but it learning to do things God's way. Paul and Silas sang hymns and prayed when in jail and the escaped from prison by the gift of the guard who got saved when the earthquake happened(story is in Acts).

We feed on this word but do we believe it. Sometimes not. Our humanity often defining our faith when it should not. Our reality of this world of what we deem plausible dictating what we believe. Are we stopping with what faith is, it goes beyond what plausible. God did not require of David to build his house, because he found God's house in the beauty of God's creation. He worship God in the beauty of his majesty of his creation. He did not worship creation but meditated on God in the vast openess of the earth. He learn the word of God in the field and also the tabernacle. He knew God's grace and was thankful for it.

David grew in the milk of God's word as a boy into manhood. David ate meat of God's word into battle, into the harshness of is own spiritual struggles. It must been some hard meat to swallow that he could not build a house for God. Yet God gave him sweet assurance his son would build it. Christ came to establish the believers, Came to demonstrate God's love to the believers. Came to set man free. In the process of teaching he nurse the people in the open field, the church would be established because of his resurrection, because Christ lived. Jesus told Peter to feed his lambs, his sheep and sheep being the group including lambs. He called them to heed to the Holy Spirit of faith to listen to his direction on how to teach them. To feed the flock as you would new born lambs. To protect them.

Dear Heavenly Father, help us to desire the milk of the word first so when it time to eat the meat of the word we can be strong and ready knowing you love us as we are and at times the meat is tough, but it your grace and mercy that strengthen us. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: 1 Chronicles 17:1-15 KJV
1 Now it came to pass, as David sat in his house, that David said to Nathan the prophet, Lo, I dwell in an house of cedars, but the ark of the covenant of the LORD remaineth under curtains.
2 Then Nathan said unto David, Do all that is in thine heart; for God is with thee.
3 And it came to pass the same night, that the word of God came to Nathan, saying,
4 Go and tell David my servant, Thus saith the LORD, Thou shalt not build me an house to dwell in:
5 For I have not dwelt in an house since the day that I brought up Israel unto this day; but have gone from tent to tent, and from one tabernacle to another.
6 Wheresoever I have walked with all Israel, spake I a word to any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to feed my people, saying, Why have ye not built me an house of cedars?
7 Now therefore thus shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, even from following the sheep, that thou shouldest be ruler over my people Israel:
8 And I have been with thee whithersoever thou hast walked, and have cut off all thine enemies from before thee, and have made thee a name like the name of the great men that are in the earth.
9 Also I will ordain a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, and they shall dwell in their place, and shall be moved no more; neither shall the children of wickedness waste them any more, as at the beginning,
10 And since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel. Moreover I will subdue all thine enemies. Furthermore I tell thee that the LORD will build thee an house.
11 And it shall come to pass, when thy days be expired that thou must go to be with thy fathers, that I will raise up thy seed after thee, which shall be of thy sons; and I will establish his kingdom.
12 He shall build me an house, and I will stablish his throne for ever.
13 I will be his father, and he shall be my son: and I will not take my mercy away from him, as I took it from him that was before thee:
14 But I will settle him in mine house and in my kingdom for ever: and his throne shall be established for evermore.
15 According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak unto David.
