The Blessings Of The Old Road 5/17/2023
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisJeremiah 6:16-19 KJV
16 Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.
17 Also I set watchmen over you, saying, Hearken to the sound of the trumpet. But they said, We will not hearken.
18 Therefore hear, ye nations, and know, O congregation, what is among them.
19 Hear, O earth: behold, I will bring evil upon this people, even the fruit of their thoughts, because they have not hearkened unto my words, nor to my law, but rejected it.
There is a warning in verse 19 that as a people today we need to really heed, yet do we. One of the worse places to fight the enemy is with our head because of our own evil thoughts. God makes a statement in verse 16 to stand, to see, to ask, walk in the old paths to find rest for one's own soul. The warning comes with what will be labor of our mind of walking in the ways of evil thoughts and not the thoughts of the goodness of God and the fruit of following God.
Most people want peace but do they know how to get it. To follow in the ways of God. Our mindset must be on God and his ways as well. Do you feel like your mind is a computer running full speed ahead, think for a moment it probably so. Even if you do meditation your mind still running even with the practice of clearing it. Meaning what, you mind is still running and witnessing the things in the world and how we respond to it.
There are those that laugh at things that in truth are not funny because they bring harm to someone, yet no one minds a bully being bullied and laughted at. Is this right. If we get mad and our thoughts are on harming someone or harming even ourselves is this of God no. If we get mad and our thoughts are hateful and it produce thoughts of hate is this being responsible. the answer is no. We all have evil thoughts about something. However if we do not place them in the fire of destruction and cast them in the garabage bin, we will produce fruit not of Satan. How do we go about solving things with our thoughts. First get rid of the muck and mire, and second start praying. Listen to what God tells you to do about the situation. If it is to hush do so. We want to follow the old paths by doing so what are we following the laws the condition of wilderness in the lives of the people during the time of Moses and what was always the solution? Moses talking to God but who talked to Moses the people. Jesus is our intercessor not Moses, and he goes before us to our Heavenly Father as our High Priest. Who is Jesus in the flesh, and who is Jesus at the time of Moses? God's Word. To pray to Jesus to seek Jesus we study his word and pray. Pray to our Heavenly Father, with the Holy Spirit interceding on our behalf as Christ being the judge between the matters of our mind and not just our heart.
Sometimes that is simple solution is having God's word in authority when following the old roads of faith. Israel would come to a place they would seek God even when their thoughts were not where they should be. God is able to remove the thoughts that do not belong in our head. One might even yearn for those thoughts but they will not be there, because you turned them over to God. God wants to be the one moving the impurities out of our life and putting the old pathways into our heart and minds.
Pathway of Old ways is not always what we know we can do, it letting God take us further then we ever expected in life. A woman realize her pathway to go through Psychology would of been a good route for her with a major in religion and not as a minor. In the last four years she got to see how she could of been effective in the psychology world with children. She had opportunity to see where that goal could of taken her. Sometimes in the course of our actions we can see far enough ahead to keep us walking the old roads and old ways of faith. Israel felt their hunger, and complained to Moses without seeking God but when poisonous vipers came they began to want to seek God on their own. Desperation can't wait for the prophet, one going to call on God themselves. The worse thing God could do is strike them dead and show no mercy in their situation.
Part of the old roads is learning to trust in God even when we can not see the pathway of safety before us. Sometimes we have to trust God for the pathway of our life journey to keep us focused on his will for our life. Sometimes we can not see that pathway God has planned we got to take it on blind faith that step offer is the right one according to what God speaks to our heart. Can we hear God's direction in our life? Can we walk by faith and not by sight in the direction God wants us to go.
Ask me in a few years if I am blind in both eyes completely if I can walk by faith, the answer will be no. Will I not dumb, I know I will need a cane or a seeing eye dog if I am in the middle of traffic going toward a store door. There is a point. Without God assistance of his Spirit in our journey of faith it is a blind leading the blind. If God leading by his spirit and we trust then we have nothing to be afraid. If we walk the old paths by God's word with faith we having nothing to be afraid of. We will live another day in each hour of the day, as we learn to walk in his peace that pass all understanding.
The blessing of doing things God's way is to know when we do not understand what God is doing, we can know he got the best course for us in his plans for us, we just have to stick to the old paths and ways of God even when our mindset is not of God for the moment of our humanity called anger. This is hard even for Old Christians as well as new. Benefits of the life following the pathways of God through Christ Jesus is not only peace God brings when we obey, the knowledge and hope that we are God's children.
Dear Heavenly Father thank you for your blessings that pour out from you when we trust you will in our life. Help us to obey your Word and Spirit, and keep us focused on your word remove our evil thoughts so we produce good fruit for your service. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

1 My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments:
2 For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.
3 Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart:
4 So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.
5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.
8 It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.
