Godly Mothers 5/14/2023
Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris2 Timothy 1:1-9 KJV
1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, according to the promise of life which is in Christ Jesus,
2 To Timothy, my dearly beloved son: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
3 I thank God, whom I serve from my forefathers with pure conscience, that without ceasing I have remembrance of thee in my prayers night and day;
4 Greatly desiring to see thee, being mindful of thy tears, that I may be filled with joy;
5 When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also.
6 Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.
7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
8 Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;
9 Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,
The foundation elements of faith is sometimes taught within one's own family, yet there those that do not have that foundation of a godly mother or father. Yet there are children that are taught at their grandmother and mother knees the foundation of faith in Christ Jesus. Then there people like Paul who had only his heritage of the Old Testament before his encounter with Christ. Timothy's mother and grandmother were believers. His heritage came both Jewish and Greek. Greek not being a believer or scripture does not imply it. Yet Paul being a Jew by faith through ancestory thought important for him to know Jewish history and knowledge not just New Testament to know the root and origin of Christian faith from the Old Testament. He circumcised him with this knowledge once his father was a greek.
Paul makes mention to young Timothy the richness of the faith of his grandmother Lois and his mother Eunice. That they had taught him in the ways of faith in Jesus, though his mother was Jewish origin, there were things taught by Jewish men to men that perhaps not taught to the women in the same way. Man alliance so to speak. That men's group, knowledge they think women know nothing about.
Growing up seeing the Bible picture of young Timothy sitting with his grandmother and mother always was a special reminder of being taught by my family the baseline of scripture. Meaning the foundation roots to get to my own faith in God. Faith is not built on what your mother believed or your father, it comes with your own conviction to faith in Jesus. You can be raised in a Christian home and not know Jesus, but the principals of faith is establish so you know the road in which to find Jesus as your own personal Savior.
Jesus is real person in the since of being real, someone one can talk to in the darkest hours of night or day. When the things of life seems to be pressing in, or the light of the day seem like it is surrounding you with unspeakable joy of one's faith in Jesus, you can talk and praise Jesus. These things can not be taught by man, but by the Holy Spirit. I can tell you to go pray no matter what you going through but unless you do it for yourself that faith in Jesus will never come. Even in recent days and years my own prayer life has changed. I felt the waves of the storms in my own life and knew prayer was the answer, but there times I did not feel I prayed enough about situation, though I felt the peace of God was with me. What has happen God was transforming my prayer life into what I need to being seeking God for in the war room of faith. What am i talking about. I just watch the movie the War Room, no clue who put it out to tell the truth but it had a solid message of faith in Jesus. One older woman began to mother another woman in faith, teaching her the principals of prayer after hearing all her rants. She asked the woman when are you going to pray. When are you going to take it to Jesus?
There is a point the direction we must be taught is about how to talk to Jesus, how to take things to God the Father, to talk to him about all things in our life. Paul does not talk to Timothy about those things he seem to have a good foundation of faith, but his historical information was needed. The foundation of when young Timothy went with Paul into a synagogue to tell about the coming of Jesus to the Jewish people need to be taught, to be respectful of their traditions. That our roots of faith come from there as well as in Jesus. Knowledge about these people traditions and things maybe not taught in the Christian faith. Timothy would write Hebrews and in it he discuss and preaches on the sacrificial laws of faith that Chrsit abolished with his death and resurrection. Something his father could not teach him being a greek.
The division of the mother church being seen between Jew and Gentile right here, but not lost completely for Jewish Christians knew to teach about Christ their faith from old was needed to help in the understanding of roots of faith that Christ grew as a man under and taught in, including the temple. Would our two faith Jews and Christians ever come to terms of the branch we are in and under the spiritual branch of faith in Christ who is the offspring of Jesse and King David. Offspring of faith with and without sacrifice of ram, goat or bull, but by the precious blood of God's only Son Jesus. It is still coming with the grafting in of the Jews who believe.
This mother's day it is important to teach your children not only the roots of Christian faith, but the four Gospels of faith including the letters and stories of New Testament church and growth. Without knowledge of that whole Bible some of what is taught in the New Testament Christ teaches can not fully be understood without explanation. Mother's teach your children because the church might not, but the church has a responsibility to teach the things of God so that when children run into the devil they know and turn away and run home to the church or fight with the power of God within them. That they do not have to be standing alone but rest in the power of God and Christ Jesus in their life called the Holy Spirit. They do not have to be afraid but allow faith to stand between them and the enemy, faith rooted in Christ. They will know the differene if you teach them truth. They see the opposite of God and run.
Dear Heavenly Father, help us to be educated by your Spirit in truth through your word. Let it be a light in the darkness when the enemy comes pressing in to stand firm in faith and knowledge of what you teach us by your Spirit. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
This Mother's Day is a little different, but blessings to all mother's out there and prayers for you to teach the truth of God's word and not the lies of Satan, so your children will know truth and know the difference. God Bless you from Christina Farris administrator of turtle30cshell.com
Continual Scripture Study: Acts 16:1-3 KJV
1 Then came he to Derbe and Lystra: and, behold, a certain disciple was there, named Timotheus, the son of a certain woman, which was a Jewess, and believed; but his father was a Greek:
2 Which was well reported of by the brethren that were at Lystra and Iconium.
3 Him would Paul have to go forth with him; and took and circumcised him because of the Jews which were in those quarters: for they knew all that his father was a Greek.
