Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Acts 9:32-43 KJV
32 And it came to pass, as Peter passed throughout all quarters, he came down also to the saints which dwelt at Lydda.
33 And there he found a certain man named Aeneas, which had kept his bed eight years, and was sick of the palsy.
34 And Peter said unto him, Aeneas, Jesus Christ maketh thee whole: arise, and make thy bed. And he arose immediately.
35 And all that dwelt at Lydda and Saron saw him, and turned to the Lord.
36 Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which by interpretation is called Dorcas: this woman was full of good works and almsdeeds which she did.
37 And it came to pass in those days, that she was sick, and died: whom when they had washed, they laid her in an upper chamber.
38 And forasmuch as Lydda was nigh to Joppa, and the disciples had heard that Peter was there, they sent unto him two men, desiring him that he would not delay to come to them.
39 Then Peter arose and went with them. When he was come, they brought him into the upper chamber: and all the widows stood by him weeping, and shewing the coats and garments which Dorcas made, while she was with them.
40 But Peter put them all forth, and kneeled down, and prayed; and turning him to the body said, Tabitha, arise. And she opened her eyes: and when she saw Peter, she sat up.
41 And he gave her his hand, and lifted her up, and when he had called the saints and widows, presented her alive.
42 And it was known throughout all Joppa; and many believed in the Lord.
43 And it came to pass, that he tarried many days in Joppa with one Simon a tanner.

One of the things that made Peter great in his day was the healing power of Jesus that flowed in his life no doubt. Yet we must not forget the journey to this place where he could pray and ask for boldness or simply say rise up and walk by the Spirit of God and to remain humble before the Lord. The early churches were built on the things that occurred, many wanting the power and others wanting to know about this faith of God found in Peter. To boldly say get up an walk, many of us do not have that boldness though some of us would love to say it knowing Jesus would do all we desire in our hearts, yet most will never be as bold as Peter in his faith, and yet ministers seem to have that boldness, seem to lack maybe faith or faith of the one needing the healing that neither receive the blessing of change that healing causes in both people. Peter remain to educate the people about God, the Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. The one miracle that drew many people to faith in the Lord did not stop in the area he was in. When a woman named Dorcas grew sick with fever and died, Peter was requested. Peter went in and the people were mourning because Dorcas was dead. Peter asked the people to leave the room and he knelt down and prayed and turning toward the dead body said Tabitha arise. She openned up her eyes seen Peter and sat up. He remain in Joppa With one Simon a tanner.

None of these events in todays world seem strange to us, but to be in time warp for a moment when doctors did not have skills they do today, to see a fisherman heal and to raise up a dead woman, meant something was different about this man then all other teachers and preachers that came that way. By nature his staying meant Peter was going to teach about the kingdom of God. Revival had broken out with the miracles that were performed in that area. Because of the miracles many believed in the Lord.

This month is Mother's Day a reflection on early church growth and early church being built upon faith in Jesus. Mother's day is also a celeberation of Mothers. Mothers being a special part of every person's life even if their mom is not their biological one. Even my own mother is special to me. Yet I had many church mothers' in my life, meaning places I learned about Jesus, in many churches that helped me in my journey of faith, they were the surrogate of my spiritual faith. Meaning they were the the one's that carried the gospel to me both at home and in church. From the simple sunday school teachers of faith to the adult teachers and congregational ministers of faith. Our greatest teacher is the Holy Spirit who gave spiritual birth to every born again believer. Not by our power we are saved, but by faith In Jesus, through the love of God he had for us as he willed his Son to die on the cross for our sins and rise a third day, who ascended into heaven sending forth his Spirit to man to testify of who he is to the lost as well as the believer.

As God gave evidence of his power through Peter men and women were saved. God's Spirit convicting the heart of the unbeliever to call him Lord. With faith, Peter seen miracles happen, because he obeyed God and did all the Spirit called him to do. We leave God out the equation with our salvation we fail to understand that God's convicting power through his Spirit that enabled one to be saved. Otherwise we would still be lost. Think about your own process to salvation, those that are lost still can not do this exercise but those that are lost, have you ever come to a place of decision, that place of decision is the Holy Spirit convicting your heart to receive Christ and to repent of your sins. God is still calling if you still listening and reading his word for information don't give up, receive Jesus as Lord and Savior today. Go to how to be saved page in the website. There verse there to help you through the process of salvation.

Dear Heavenly Father, help us learn not only about our own surrogancy, but also about the process of your Spirit giving life to each believer, because our hope and faith rest in the hope you give to each new believer, and believers to come. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
