The Rocks Will Cry Out
3/09/2023

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Luke 19:28-44 KJV
28 And when he had thus spoken, he went before, ascending up to Jerusalem.
29 And it came to pass, when he was come nigh to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount called the mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples,
30 Saying, Go ye into the village over against you; in the which at your entering ye shall find a colt tied, whereon yet never man sat: loose him, and bring him hither.
31 And if any man ask you, Why do ye loose him? thus shall ye say unto him, Because the Lord hath need of him.
32 And they that were sent went their way, and found even as he had said unto them.
33 And as they were loosing the colt, the owners thereof said unto them, Why loose ye the colt?
34 And they said, The Lord hath need of him.
35 And they brought him to Jesus: and they cast their garments upon the colt, and they set Jesus thereon.
36 And as he went, they spread their clothes in the way.
37 And when he was come nigh, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen;
38 Saying, Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest.
39 And some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said unto him, Master, rebuke thy disciples.
40 And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out.
41 And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it,
42 Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes.
43 For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side,
44 And shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.

If you and I had a choice to walk up hill or down hill, I suspect most would rather walk down a hill then up a hill. Jesus sends two of the disciples to go get a colt down a hill. He would ride in to Jerusalem on this donkey. This is Luke version of the story. What is different about Luke's account. Well he does not ride on a donkey or a she ass but a colt. Why a colt here, who he talking to that colt would matter verses ass or a donkey. Perhaps some culture that tend to understand the value of a colt verses a donkey and how they parade their leaders. Have you ever see the Christmas story redone by children that they may do the story in modern fashion verses traditional. When it done it is perceived well usually because the way it interpreted by the kids has a very understandable meaning. Will the books are writen by the authority of God, but interpretation is going to come from the individual writers and who they were writting it to like a letter. It was intend for a certain group of people and because the type of animal would only be important to the Jews, Matthew account is the only one to write a she ass and a colt. Actually by Israel tradition this is how kings rode in parade for their coronation, including King David. The fact might be that a colt would of been riden on in the area the book was recorded for. The account of events more important here.

Jesus sent to go get a colt, that was tied. When the two disciples got to the colt and began to loosen him, the man that seen them asked what they were doing and they said as Jesus told them to, that their Lord was in need of it. They took the colt to Jesus and disciples put their cloaks on the colt. Jesus is coming riding a colt into Jerusalem when the women and men down the hill aways began place palm branches in the street and their robes. Did the story change not in the least but important because Jesus is exalting his Lordship and kingship by doing this very act.

The Pharisees in the crowd told Jesus to stop what he was doing and told him to quiet the crowd from praising him. Jesus told him even if they grew quiet the rocks would cry out. As he came to the city he wept over it. He wept because he knew Jerusalem spiritual decline. He also knew that Jews would put him on trial not knowing who he was. Here were do not see the curious onlookers of disciples with Jesus going to festival, but a Jesus weeping for those inside the gates of Jerusalem unknown to Jews what was about to befall them in the days ahead as he would go to his cross and that the temple would be going through turbulence time until it final physical destruction. The denial of some that he is the Messiah even after the cross while others would be saved. Because they knew not and rejected the time of Christ visitation, not one stone would be left on top of another. This would happen around 70 AD some scholars say 90 AD but date accuracy not as important the point that temple would be complete destroyed. It would be about 35 years after the time of Christ or there about when the temple would be destroyed.

As a believer in Christ we not looking for the New Jerusalem on earth but the one that will come with Christ coming or our own death. Meaning our new home coming to us. The other day on the news someone said that the aliens were coming they seen a mother ship. Okay it is joke, but it got the viewers to see a bad news story on space. They had to do something to boost ratings I guess. Anyway there is a point, one day every eye will see the new home as well as Jesus. Every eyes will behold our new location, and then the earth and heaven will be gone that we knew. Sounds like science in regards to destruction of planet, but our planet is not a star that explodes or is it. I have no clue, I can't keep up with everything and i growing old. I won't be the first leave the planet for another planet by rocket. Though they say there are trips being taken into outspace, but it cost a fortune.

There is point we look at what media feeds our eyes and wonder about Jesus, then I have to ask what story do you believe the heart or the world. Planets do come close to our orbit from time to time, what did the ancient understand. They understood not what religious people know, that some people never hear God, because they are too busy taking in all the false information of the world. Not weeding it out or caring beyond what their own desires are and what they want to believe.

The triumphal story is important for the rocks would cry out on the day of Christ death with earth quake. Yet we can not stop with the earth crying out but event he soldier cried out he must be the Son of God that day. The earth spoke without the need of man to telling the soldier who this Jesus was. We have one more account of the triumphal entry and it will be John's account. It is in every Gospel book. It was important to understand the story of Jesus exalting himself because the crowd was following him.

Dear Heavenly Father, you place by your authority the story of the Triumphal entry to help with the story of why Christ went to his cross. Help us to understand his cross more clearly to know his exaltation was only declaring to the people who he was. He showed them one last time his authority though it was rejected by the Pharisees and the crowd. Help us Lord not to be blind by the calling of Jesus one more time even in our individual life. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Matthew 27:54 KJV
54 Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.
