Horton Hear's A Who 3/2/2023
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisJeremiah 17:5-15 KJV
5 Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD.
6 For he shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh; but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land and not inhabited.
7 Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is.
8 For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.
9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?
10 I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.
11 As the partridge sitteth on eggs, and hatcheth them not; so he that getteth riches, and not by right, shall leave them in the midst of his days, and at his end shall be a fool.
12 A glorious high throne from the beginning is the place of our sanctuary.
13 O LORD, the hope of Israel, all that forsake thee shall be ashamed, and they that depart from me shall be written in the earth, because they have forsaken the LORD, the fountain of living waters.
14 Heal me, O LORD, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved: for thou art my praise.
15 Behold, they say unto me, Where is the word of the LORD? let it come now.
As Dr. Seus for decades have been loved by children from Cat In The Hat, Horton Hears A Who, Fried Green eggs and Ham and so forth. I can remember looking at the books and wonder why trees did not look like trees, instead more like a stem with a puff ball on top. Then one day I was watching something on television and it occured to me Dr Seus had been somewhere I had not seen before and I dead stopped in my thinking. I wonder for a little what was I thinking. but I was thinking that had not explored. I realized how many children look at those picture and wonder as I about those trees and if that type existed. No I can not remember where the pictures were taken but it caught me off guard and put me into a reality I had not consider thus far.
Our reality of trusting God has a child would or even trusting in God has adult, have we really asked what it means to be a believer? To trust in the Lord in the situation or place we have found ourselves in. To trust in God despite our own understanding, to not be moved by the wealth of the world or the word of man verses the word of God. Many walk the path of faith, but do we consider what faith entails beyond the everyday be a good person. To be exile or going to be in exile is much tougher then the reality of where we stand in everyday living.
Jesus knew he was going to the cross, knew his journey and demonstration of faith had to be purified even at the cross, but his journey before the cross was fellowship with is disciples and all that would hear him. The Old Testament Prophet Jeremiah had preached to trust in God, and had left the palace, to land in the sewer of faith. To find himself once out of the pit another place of refuge by those that were taking him into exile, yet the day before he ate from the king's banquet and sat in clean clothes.
The partridge that sits on his eggs on his nest and never sees them hatch is like a man going into exile without faith loosing all his worldly goods. Those that trust in God are lead by the water of life, the wealth of God's word. Many have heard the word's of Dr Seus growing up but how many heard God's word growing up. The question then rises which as life and which words can not bring life more abundantly. Dr. Seus is a healthy children's book, but it can not bring life of endurance to the end. There many self help books out there but how many tell you about the one that gives eternal life. The scholars taking the milk of the word of good works and good deeds, but leave out Jesus the meat the substain of hope and faith. They remove faith and give you self help to edify self with world standards and propaganda, leaving out faith by removing God from their thinking, and about how to help themselves to be overcomers by their own merit.
The world is exile to self help medication of survival. I like to watch survival shows and I realize I am not far in my thinking that some of the techniques used are beneficial in the since of knowing how to survive in the harshes of situations, yet what it does not teach is the benefits of faith in the harshness of life situations that will carry you into eternity. Man is taught to rely on oneself for survival, not to seek the aid of God or others. It is taught because man thinks they can do it all but in reality it untrue, sooner or later you have to rely either on someone or not be able to go any further without assistance, survival ability short lived by the situation.
What does faith do in the survival since? What does trusting God in the journey do for anyone? Elijah was feed by a raven, and feed by a widow when his supply of food was gone and the widow in need herself. What does faith do, but it restores us with the supplied of God bounty and the reality of hope. A rich man needs not the hope of God in the since of supply. A Partridge sitting on eggs that never amount to even hatching has eggs without hope but to be a meal for someone. The eggs are just a feast for prey.
One is taught when young not to put all your hopes/eggs in one basket. Yet the one hope you need is Jesus. The one hope to survive in our world comes with faith and needs to be in one basket. Do we trust enough no matter what our journey brings that God supply will be met. Jesus went to the cross with the only escape would be to call the angels of heaven to defend him, but he did nothing but go to the cross and pay the price for our sins. He did not fight to escape his situation but went through the situation with death coming face to face and resurrection coming with his knowledge his death would not be the end of his human life. He is the Son of God, he had seen the kingdom of heaven, he knew that all he had to do was get to the other side of the cross and he be set free of the torment of the physical world. In order to do that he had to follow the will of God. Sounds like a video game, get to the end and be a winner.
Jeremiah had to go through the fire to get a nice place to spend in exile. Moses had to suffer with the chilren of Israel to learn about the journey within his own soul, yet he traveled asking God in the journey for supply knowing God heard him and knew his God would supply. Jonah had to go through a fish belly and then sit in the hot sun to get God lesson of his journey was not his but God's will to be done by him yielding to God's purpose for him to preach to Nineveh knowing those people would repent of sin. That is was not Jonah to decide Nineveh fait.
Men that save their wealth hope that they will use it when the right time comes and they may die before that day comes. They will not see their wealth produce, but what does faith of a person produce in the life of others that see the struggle, hopefully faith in God. Hopefully when the position of faith has to be fully applied in their own life they ready for that type of faith to see them through what ever ahead of them. it easy to say pray, but to walk into exile of the world is far harder. To stand or lay in the situation of reliance on God for the supply and for the need take faith.
Supply is not always for help, not even always for emotional strength, and it not always an emergency supply of hope, but it is abundant because it solved with faith. The journey needs the supply of endurance and to walk trusting in God for the supply that will teach faith in the journey. It easy to feel like you loosing faith, especially when you able to supply for yourself, or achieve without what you feel is God's handiwork. Yet without God's handiwork involved you will not survive, endure or achieve with or without physical supply. Material supply has nothing to do with faith, it may inspire and help produce faith, but it is not faith. Trusting in God comes from the heart and the soul of man. It not our desire of material items but the spiritual need of God in our life that only he can satisfy through the gift of his Son and evidence of his word coming forth bring life abundantly in our lives.
Do we breath hope of faith into our children, our love ones, and others is the question. Do the words of scripture to trust in the Lord with all our heart not words spoken in Proverbs 3:5. Does Dr Seus do that. I think not in his books. Elephant in Horton hears a who could hear a village but not see the village that was no bigger then a piece of dust to the elephant's eye. We are just speck in our Heavenly Father's eye but he hears us and he also lives in our heart through Christ Jesus when we receive him as Lord. His Spirit enters and speaks his word to our hearts. He sees us with out magnifer for aid. He sees us as we are in need of him. He loves us despite our enablity to see our need of his help and him being able to squish us.
God brings comfort and joy through his word to our Spirit even in days of trouble and days of joy and hope. Faith is more then the need for help in the struggles of life. It not just a poor man's God, but a rich man spiritual hope of peace with God. Can we stand in the valley of faith during our spiritual trial knowing the mountain top experience is just in sight.
Good words of man may help the journey, but it not spiritual satisfying, nor will it last into eternity. Feed the soul of faith, and live beside the spring of pure water that refreshes the inner man. Ask God to deal with the heart that the inner part is pleasing to him. The interior is a home built for his dwelling.
Dear Heavenly Father, today is a time of reflection of the spiritual words of faith that uplift, uphold and keep our heart from sinning against you. Help us spiritually to be lifted up by your word and presence in our daily life. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
Continual Scripture Study: Proverbs 3:3-8 KJV
3 Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart:
4 So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.
5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.
8 It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.
