Punishment And Mercy
6/12/2023

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Ephesians 2:1-22 KJV
1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;
2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:
7 That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
11 Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;
12 That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:
13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.
14 For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;
15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;
16 And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:
17 And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh.
18 For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.
19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;
20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;
21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:
22 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.

Father God in his greatness punished man in the garden of Eden by telling them they could no longer live there because of sin. As he cast them out he made them coats from animal skins for protection from the elements of this world. Yet in his mercy he would bring redemption to mankind through his word, that same word that punished man because original sin. That same word God used to instruct Adam not to eat the fruit. To understand that even under Jewish faith anyone not even born Israelite could become a person of faith in God. One did not have to be Israelite born, but born by faith, meaning through belief as Abraham believed God and it was created to him as righteousness. Faith always even at the time of Noah having mercy, grace, and strength in salvation still coming from God. Yet God would still send forth his Son born of Virgin to demonstrate this love and compassion he had for man. He not only send his word in the form of man but he would allow man to punish his Son for whom he claim to be and truly was. Yet despite it, he allow man to become to children of God and it is by God grace we are saved nothing we do ourselves or through the law, but by belief in Jesus, we receive the evidence of God through faith.

Evidence might seem like a word that not really understood, we know earth was formed and the plants, animals and such must be made by some form of superior being, even we understand not. We can grasp there something bigger and smarter then us human somewhere in the universe that we see. Yet God sent his only begotten Son into the world that we not only see his love for man through the works of miracles, abling the blind to see, deaf to ear and the lame walk, but to hear the truth of the love of God was not in the form of laws but in the form of grace given to every man that would receive not only his word but his word in the flesh the Son of God as Savior to the world.

Man before the laws, the ones without God, without faith knew not the ways of God. There hearts were continual on the ways of evil and did not desire the ways of God. Sounds more like if we divide people by the general disposition not their heart, we see two groups emerge, people with kindness and compassion toward others because this is how life was taught to them and the blessings of being kind to others coming forth from their compassion and kindness. It like you take a bowl of soup to someone they usually bring you something either back or something later down the road when their pot is full. Yet to be evil you hit and someone will hit you back, you trip someone or move a chair out from beneath you, you can almost bet someone evil sees it and will do the same to you. It the constant war and striving to harm and not meaning to do good. If man would judge based on these things how many would be unpunished for a crime. How many with a good character would be set free. How many with evil intent not guilty would still be punished. It like a teacher punishing a whole classroom for one student being bad. Yet in this case the whole classroom was bad except one person who had to go through the punishment as well. Adam and Eve was being punished for this one sin that effect you and I and all generation after their time. Yet God not asking us not to continue in their sin but willing believe and obey him. God in his mercy seen man was willing to obey, but not all were willing to believe. Those not willing to obey were rotten to the core. Yet his mercy came by faith in Christ Jesus the ambassador to his own people and the world. Ambassador was needed because of the exile of Jewish nation and continual captivity in the promise land by Roman control. Just because Israel was home, they still had two formes of law to obey one of God and the other of Roman law. Jesus would be condemned by both laws.

To understand God sees our heart, as Father he looks deeper then outward demonstration of our actions. Actions can be act to what really in our soul. God looks within and cries mercy. Cries grace. Cries I going to show you my love through my Son. Going to show you his love through his death, as he cries forgive them. He goes into the grave and rise on the third to go to the Father and then to teach the disciples for 40 more days.

What we fine we all have nailed Christ to the cross, we all are responsible for his death, but hope sprung anew through the resurrection his love not dying for man. His compassion prevailing. As he broke the chains between him and us as he continued to teach after facing that punishment. God tearing the wall of partition down that was between him and man. What is this wall it symbolic in the temple veil over the area of the Holies of Holies. The veil being ripped on the day of Christ's death as the earthquake shook the land as he died. God doing away with the partition, demonstrating eye for eye so to speak with Christ death, and Adam's in his sin being cast out that would lead to death. Meaning the wages of sin is death.

With this one Son he allow man to repay him in their land. Though God was ruler over all, he allowed man to choose his rules and authority. Yet he did not allow to make his way back to heaven or back to earth without his divine intervention. No one understand the intervention of life after death in our world we live in, why some people are brought back through medical science and others are gone on to their final resting place. That something between God and the individual.

We only see our own heart and our brain does not always tell the truth about what is in the heart. God sees what is in our heart. He knows if Christ resides there. Whether we ask Jesus to come and dine with our own soul. When the wall was torn down the Spirit of God came to all mankind convicting them in the ways of sin. There was no more division between God and man. God could always talk directly to the non believer not just the believer. Yet only the believer would have his Spirit living in their heart. God's kingdom is built through all the believers joined together as one. Each of us is a temple of the Holy Spirit that believe. God wants to build faith, hope, love and so forth into our life. To build us into people of good works because of faith, not just to be a "good person". God wants to be inspiration of all we do. God the Father knows our ability and our inability. He knows how to create in us not just a willing heart but people committed to praying to seeing other change as we share the Gospel with others. He wants to inable us to be a seed planter, but not the seed grower. The growing part is up to God.

Dear Heavenly Father, we come to you knowing you desire peace with all and that why you sent your Son out of your love, mercy and grace for us in which Son came to redeem us. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Hebrews 11:1-3 KJV
1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
2 For by it the elders obtained a good report.
3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.
