God Of Rest 6/05/2023
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisJeremiah 31:1-3 KJV
1 At the same time, saith the LORD, will I be the God of all the families of Israel, and they shall be my people.
2 Thus saith the LORD, The people which were left of the sword found grace in the wilderness; even Israel, when I went to cause him to rest.
3 The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.
The whole chapter of Jeremiah is not post this morning wanting to focus on three verses, but the whole chapter is about the coming of Christ and a time of deliverance and rest for the soul. There will always be work to do, but there is a time of rest and it spiritual rest. God rest from his work but his work was not complete on the seventh day. He continued doing a work in the life of people and their nations. God would bless the nations through Israel but his people were the Israelites. You have trust me God intent to bless other nations through Israel is a fact or read the rest of the chapter. However two things for certain even in the wilderness in Exodus there was a time of the sword but what remain found the grace of God in the wilderness, even Israel over time. God took an obstinate people that did not trust or obey him and caused them to desire him.
Most politicians when their people by the things they do or claim to do for their people. Some even finding ways to cover up crime legally for friends or people that can impact their elections. They fear the power of the word of mouth more then then defending truth and justice in some cases. Some political leaders in the past taking great falls when truth was discovered.
What am I truly saying. There is war in life that feels like the wilderness experience of Israel. Mainly called spiritual warfare at its best. Our life becomes a struggle because we believe God but we not fully trusting him in our life and in areas of our life. When you can leave what you do in someone else's hands and know it will be done as you would desire it, then you worry less, sleep more and complain little. Most of us are afraid to let go in areas of our life and allow God's work to be done. It is the subtle things God is doing that we can't see, and can not always hear. He works on our hearts the same as he works on others, speaking his word that pentrates our hearts like a sword to even the marrow of our bones and entire being. When get to a place we allow God to handle our business we know God will take care of it. I am talking about soul and spirit, about the things we can not control in others as well as those things we have no power to change. No power to make a decision of change because to make change seldom hits the right spot to destroy the problem. The woman that can't get her husband to put his dirty clothes in the basket/hamper and is forever picking up after him, it is only a constant reminder that either he cares little about her or the mess he making. My husband does know where the clothes basket is. These type of issue can effect a marriage and cause some of the best arguments. Yet when a wife knows her husband cares is by being responsible over little things she request of him as well as the bigger responsibilities.
If we go to the war room of our homes what are we praying for in our mates, in church, in our children, and our friends. What about our enemies? What is the problem we see. What are we praying for. Now let us ask God to get to the root of the problem and help it be corrected so we can come to rest. One of the best gifts a love one gives without knowing it is when they get saved through faith in Christ Jesus. Yet the journey for a new believer is just beginning and as they go through the wilderness they will need encouragement to have faith. People of Israel in the wilderness heard the voice of God. Many feared God and did not understand his loving kindness or that he was on their side, desiring better things for them. A victim of a crime can often be displaced of who to trust. Yet those desiring safety hopes they come to a place of trust but some never do. Amalekites fought Israel in the wilderness and as long as Moses held up his arms the troops would win and when his hands would drop the troops would begin to loose to the point people began to hold Moses arms up and not allow them to drop down. Faith in God instruction sometimes is painful. No doubt at the end day Moses arms were sore maybe not even able to feed himself because of the muscle straining in his arms. The hope was in the Lord to do what God instructed first by Moses lifting up his arms heavenward.
Some of the things God ask us to do might hurt, but it for a purpose we do not fully understand. God desire to bring all people through the line of Israel through Jesus, to him, yet it matter not if you were Israelite or another, your wilderness experience and faith in God was still possible. Where are you today. You want to come to rest but the battle seems to be waging all around you, first have you receive Jesus as Lord do that right now, If you already saved lay that burden at the cross that you struggling with. Turn it completely over to God. When you do you find the rest you need for your soul. I know it hard. I struggle too. Yet I know when things are in God's hands one can not fail the will of God. One can rest in the middle of the storm. Christ is touch by our infirmities by our struggles in this life. Take it to him. God is a loving God and he draws us near to him in our faith. We might fall, we might stumble but he draws us to him that believe with his love and compassion he has for us.
Dear Heavenly Father move in your people to lay their burdens at the cross and to trust you for the spiritual rest they need for their soul.Thank you for loving us as we are with all the burdens we continue to lay at your feet. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
Continual Scripture Study: Hebrews 4:1-16 KJV
1 Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.
2 For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.
3 For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
4 For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.
5 And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest.
6 Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief:
7 Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.
8 For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day.
9 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.
10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.
11 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.
12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
13 Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.
14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.
15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
