How Can One Rejoice In Disaster

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Habakkuk 3:1-19 KJV
1 A prayer of Habakkuk the prophet upon Shigionoth.
2 O LORD, I have heard thy speech, and was afraid: O LORD, revive thy work in the midst of the years, in the midst of the years make known; in wrath remember mercy.
3 God came from Teman, and the Holy One from mount Paran. Selah. His glory covered the heavens, and the earth was full of his praise.
4 And his brightness was as the light; he had horns coming out of his hand: and there was the hiding of his power.
5 Before him went the pestilence, and burning coals went forth at his feet.
6 He stood, and measured the earth: he beheld, and drove asunder the nations; and the everlasting mountains were scattered, the perpetual hills did bow: his ways are everlasting.
7 I saw the tents of Cushan in affliction: and the curtains of the land of Midian did tremble.
8 Was the LORD displeased against the rivers? was thine anger against the rivers? was thy wrath against the sea, that thou didst ride upon thine horses and thy chariots of salvation?
9 Thy bow was made quite naked, according to the oaths of the tribes, even thy word. Selah. Thou didst cleave the earth with rivers.
10 The mountains saw thee, and they trembled: the overflowing of the water passed by: the deep uttered his voice, and lifted up his hands on high.
11 The sun and moon stood still in their habitation: at the light of thine arrows they went, and at the shining of thy glittering spear.
12 Thou didst march through the land in indignation, thou didst thresh the heathen in anger.
13 Thou wentest forth for the salvation of thy people, even for salvation with thine anointed; thou woundedst the head out of the house of the wicked, by discovering the foundation unto the neck. Selah.
14 Thou didst strike through with his staves the head of his villages: they came out as a whirlwind to scatter me: their rejoicing was as to devour the poor secretly.
15 Thou didst walk through the sea with thine horses, through the heap of great waters.
16 When I heard, my belly trembled; my lips quivered at the voice: rottenness entered into my bones, and I trembled in myself, that I might rest in the day of trouble: when he cometh up unto the people, he will invade them with his troops.
17 Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls:
18 Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation.
19 The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds' feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places. To the chief singer on my stringed instruments.

I thank the Lord, I am on a hill, but I thank the Lord also for the fact the flood our town had was not as severe as it could have been. I not sure how many years ago but the river was dreg about 15 foot deep. It can't crest because of the dregging until it reaches the edge of the retaining wall. If it crest it will produce flooding but not as severe as in years gone by. Without the engineering design the town would of been more underwater then it even realizes. The natural underground springs over flowing coming down from the mountain top areas toward the water flowing rivers produce flooding as well. I have yet to check on one person I know about the flood. Pictures look bad but not as bad as it has in the past either, for the flood water does not stay in our area but continues down the rivers. We got about three different rivers flowing in our area. Yet they are really only a crik/creek that if you are looking for a large body of water, you will not find it unless there is flooding. Yet the water flows in the valleys below our town and one river actually flows backwards but you would not know it without someone telling you unless you are really good with directions by the sun. Are there blessings, besides loss of vehicles, flooding of homes and torn up roadway not to bad but still cleanup in our area to be done. Basement and someone trailer look like it took a beating near the water edge though it was anchor very well and the water did not carry it down stream.

I do not doubt FEMA will take an accessment of water damage, some have insurance, and some will surely move to higher ground. Evacutions sound like it went fairly smoothly. Our town no doubt heeded the flood warnings and many stayed home for those that were aware of the flooding. Praising God for his mercy in preparation of man that knew how to fix part of the creek problem though it was not enough this time. Yet in the past the dregging/expansion of the creek had been in past year. Thank God for those rescue crews out, and about saving. Protecting lives during the flooding. As far as I know no one seriously injured. I have not reviewed reports.

The Lord is good and his mercy endures forever. How do you picture Habakkuk seeing images of the destruction and yet able to praise the Lord. I be honest if you are the one in harms way saying Praise the Lord may not run out of your mouth. Nor may it be the first words on your lips. Yet no doubt God grace on his people is far greater then we fully grasp. How much can a person handle knowing God's word of prophecy. How much do we believe. How much are we convinced of God's word coming to pass in the future. Prophet knew the stories of old like the crossing of the red sea and the enemy destroyed. Yet this time God's talking about his people destruction that heed not his word, nor have heart for him. Israel representing the children who should have faith, but are walking in the ways of the evil one, so judgment is coming.

Need to seperate whose child are you, and are you living for God? Are you living for Jesus? Now you see prophecy of disaster coming and you are a child of God. God is either going to take you through what coming or remove you from the storm. Either way God's protection is on your life. The remanent knew it destruction was coming, but also knew they were living for God and the hope rested in that fact. Storms can be predicted by radar and yet do we heed scientific evidence anymore then God's word or do we walk out in the drizzle of the rain to come pouring down. Wind is whipping 50 miles an hour do we drive anyway? Do we look for shelter til it all over. Well when the enemy coming to your camp you either hide, and hope your not found or come out and hope what ever happens you live to tell the tale.

Habakkuk is praising God. God shows him the prophecy and Habakkuk praise God. Begins to talk how great his God is. He not talking much about the destruction. Actually he praising God and for his greatness in the earth. He talking about the greatness of his Heavenly Father. What His God has been able to do in the past. To turn to God and not to worry about what coming up behind you. Not to look back like Lot's wife but to press on in faith.

Now Lot's wife is not mention in this passage, but It is my thoughts on the subject of Habakkuk still praising God of the Bible. The Holy Scriptures that came from old scrolls in his day. At the end of his message he talks about that destruction and how the fig tree bears no fruit, but he still praising his God. His hope is not in the destruction but in the God that is mightier then the storm. Mightier then those that are causing destruction. I can kick a child's blocks down. Child can cry and start to rebuild. I can kick them again and they scatter, child cry but he will rebuild. Why because his hope is not carrying about the one that kicking the blocks but his ability to rebuild again. His hope is in his hands as he recreate the tower he was building.

God is the one over all creation. His creation he built and designed to rebuild despite what the enemy does. His ability to build and create is unchanging. Yet there is a day when he will destroy the earth. A day when his fury will be demonstrated to the heathens. There destruction not comparing to the fury of God upon the heathens. Habakkuk worshipping the creator God who does deliver and trying to declare to the people hope if they would only turn to God.

If minister only preaches the love of God and never tell the story of God's fury coming all they know is of man's fury in their lives, without understaning God's purpose of the storm. God's fury is much worse for he will destroy all he created but the people that worship and believe in him. He is taking his people out of this world to destroy it.

You going through a storm try and Praise the Lord, try and find the thanksgiving in your heart even if it is hard to focus what God has already done for you and in the lives of others, even if it only scripture for the moment in time. Know your deliverance and God mercy is found in first coming to him with repentance, receiving his salvation plan and then praise the Lord for his mercy, strength and salvation.

Dear Heavenly Father thank you for the grace you have provide in our life knowing that when we keep our focus on you and the enemy is behind us, that you will destroy the one chasing us across the red sea. You will deliver your people as promised, In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Revelation 12:13-17 KJV
13 And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child.
14 And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.
15 And the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away of the flood.
16 And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed up the flood which the dragon cast out of his mouth.
17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.
