Obeying God Despite What He Says Sounds Insane

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Isaiah 20:1-6 KJV
1 In the year that Tartan came unto Ashdod, (when Sargon the king of Assyria sent him,) and fought against Ashdod, and took it;
2 At the same time spake the LORD by Isaiah the son of Amoz, saying, Go and loose the sackcloth from off thy loins, and put off thy shoe from thy foot. And he did so, walking naked and barefoot.
3 And the LORD said, Like as my servant Isaiah hath walked naked and barefoot three years for a sign and wonder upon Egypt and upon Ethiopia;
4 So shall the king of Assyria lead away the Egyptians prisoners, and the Ethiopians captives, young and old, naked and barefoot, even with their buttocks uncovered, to the shame of Egypt.
5 And they shall be afraid and ashamed of Ethiopia their expectation, and of Egypt their glory.
6 And the inhabitant of this isle shall say in that day, Behold, such is our expectation, whither we flee for help to be delivered from the king of Assyria: and how shall we escape?

There are scripture in the Bible we look at and wonder how can it be of God especially if we take the moral high ground of ediquette and proper dress wear. I think some sights if it occurred today would be consider unappropiate compared to prehaps that day and time. Yet Isaiah walked naked and barefooted. Ezekiel laid on his side for a period of time drawing pictures of siege of Jerusalem. I have to wonder what was the prophet themselves thinking when they obeyed God in doing all that he told them to do much less the people that watch in wonderment if the old prophet was totally nuts. Yet God began to send his word to the prophets about destruction before it came. As it came, the word finally came to Jerusalem it was there turn and they knew that their own time of destruction that believed was coming.

Can we handle what God ask us to do? Do we believe and receive all God says will happen. Noah built an ark with the knowledge destruction was coming. Abraham talked to God and knew that Sodom and Gommorah would be destroyed maybe, unless he found righteous people there. His Nephew was there and yet he did not run to rescue him. However two angels of the Lord went and got Lot his nephew out. Where is God's people watching without going to protect, standing out of harms way?

As Christians are we standing on the sidelines watching the destruction of the heathens. Are we watching the devils fall by the handfuls. Or are we in the fireline of our faith reaching beyond the borders of our land. Our land meaning our location. Are we ignoring what going on around the world and even our own nation as evil and law breaking occurs. Are we screaming these events. What did God tell Isaiah to do. Did he tell him to go to Egypt, the answer is no. Did Isaiah go before the people as God told him to do. I can not imagine the word of nake prophet not spread into the land of Egypt prophesying agains them, how Jerusalem and Judah must of been mortified by the prophet. Yet it was for the benefit of the people of his land, for him to be a watcher, a hearer, and believer to the people of the land of Jerusalem and Judah. Those that believed watched the events unfold and they listen to their Prophet Isaiah.

The prophesies of God come without man's putting on a play, or man putting on a show, or does it? Hindsight is always clear, but prophesy to be clear as it was in Isaiah day speaks something that we can not fully grasp, for his prophesy would not only come to pass but the people still ask "how can we escape?" One can not escape God's word, but we can come to learn that being on God's team is the side one wants to be on, but not in the prophetic position. Sometimes it better to believe the prophesies then to be the one that must tell through demonstration what will befall another. No doubt when it rained Isaiah felt the cold, but he knew the prophesy would end in three years.

God sets a timeline for Isaiah to perform this prophesy. Has God set a timetable for the work he called you too. Trust God's timetable. Do his work with his instructions. Noah ark would never been built without the instructions of God, nor would the animals had come forth without God sending them to Noah. God's instruction are worthy to be obeyed, even in our own embarassement. Some of the prophesy that unfolded before Israel they knew the days of the coming Messiah would come first with exile. There own embrassement of being forced to leave the promise land would come to be but only for a certain time frame. The flood did not last forever but Noah was protected because he obeyed the Lord. Never forget to believe in Jesus is our protection through out eternity. That Jesus is the only way the truth and the life.

Dear Heavenly Father when you speak of prophesy, help us to trust your word even if it is about destruction, that by obeying you and doing what we are suppose to do that your mercy will be in our life. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

16 And they that went in, went in male and female of all flesh, as God had commanded him: and the LORD shut him in.
