Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Matthew 8:1-13 KJV
1 When he was come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him.
2 And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.
3 And Jesus put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be thou clean. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.
4 And Jesus saith unto him, See thou tell no man; but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.
5 And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him,
6 And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented.
7 And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him.
8 The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.
9 For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.
10 When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.
11 And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven.
12 But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
13 And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour.

It is a sad day when doctors do not want to see some patients coming into their health facility. Cov 19 and beyond has caused this type of fever even in medical field. Leprosy was a disease that was treated by many just like Cov 19 is being treated today. I will be truthful, when I think of illnesses, diseases and such that is to transferable that people quake to be near or thought to have be near it, gives the disease power over someone. Yet healthy fear is not evil. We live in a world were as humans we are not immune from the elements of our world. If we fall down we might break a hip, leg or even arm. Paul was bitten by a viper as a prisoner, when gathering sticks, and never got sick and it should of killed him. What the difference in Paul not being harmed and Paul having a thorn in his flesh. Why did Paul suffer at all, after all he carried his cross in ministry and even faced stoning and so forth and lived to tell the tale. Yet this one snake bite did not kill him but testified of the power of his God in his life. To the point he taken to the king of the Island to heal his very sick son.

If our mentality is we can walk through fire, we need to understand is that with protection or non protection. if without protection and same type of fire with gear, will you be possibly be burnt? The answer is yes. You work in the wilderness and you walk among the gentiles that did not have the same codes concerning leprosy, you might get leprosy, or cov 19. You walk in filth you might get sick or you might survive for a great purpose to testify. How God using your situation is one you need to have your eyes open for, not what will become of you. The Leper bowed before Jesus in worship knowing who he was, asking Jesus to heal him. Leper was unworthy to be part of regular society, forced to live in leper colonies and not with the rest of Israel. They would be consider outcast. With the gentiles in power(Romans) Lepers were still shunned by Jews and others. Yet this man approach bowing to the ground to Jesus in humbleness, hoping to be healed. The second man a centurion, who had soldiers under him approaching Jesus but acknowledging he was unworthy of Jesus time, but if he just say the word, he knew his servant could be healed. He came in the humility of faith to Jesus seeking help, but not wanting to waste his time in coming to his house because Jesus was clearly busy with this crowd that was following him. Had he seen the leper healed.

Outcast Leper or Centurion unworthy to have Jesus in his home. Unworthy because he was gentile, he was unclean or defiled by Jewish custom. Was the centurion respecting the Jewish culture. Was the leper not respecting or ignorant of culture and yet was still coming in humble fashion as far as bowing to Jesus. If you ever dealt with rescue, fireworkers and medical staff you know there are times they do not want to be aiding someone yet they still do. There are times when situation are really rough and one not sure if they can handle it to administer the aid need. It like a dirty house if you attack with soap and water eventually it will be clean, a sick person or injured person if you do your best, might survive the injury or disease, if you attack the problems that are visible one step at a time. The person may seem to sick or injured that the reality of suvival is possibly not heard of but with taking the steps to solve the problem the person body might survive. The grossness of the situation makes one feel like do I proceed with aiding this person, not because one is not worthy of aid but will aid be helpful, can one administer in extreme situation being so extreme.

Centurion grossness came from his unworthiness as man, as a gentile and as a man with soldiers and people under him as well as being under authority himself. Leper unworthiness came only from his disease, not because he did not worship God or long for the Messiah, he knew who Jesus was the Son of God. Roman Centurion knew who Jesus was but still felt unworthy to even ask because there was so much need right in front of Jesus, that was far worse perhaps. He knew Jesus was busy, yet he figure he could speak the words and the power of healing would obey him to heal his servant. Jesus had not seen faith like this in Israel, but this Roman Centurion was sure Jesus could heal without leaving those sick in need of him where he was.

People even when sick are still being treated with cov 19, though protection and caustion is being used. With leprosy a person was just an outcast. Yet this Leper felt he still could come to Jesus and ask to be healed. He knew the power of Jesus. Two stories but both with the knowledge and humbleness and even humility to come to ask Jesus with respect to Jesus position and power to deliver healing by his word. No one is to sick, to injured, to mentally deranged they can not come to the throne of God and ask first for salvation and also healing of the soul, body and mind. God will always heal the soul, but what about our bodies. Healing of our bodies is for a testimony to someone else of His power to heal. Jesus told the leper to show himself to the priesthood. The Roman Centurion would go back find his servant healed and find out it was the hour he spoke to Jesus and it would be a witness to those that not only worked for the Centurion but were friends of his. Another gospel interpretation of the same event speaks of how the Centurion found the servant well. Go find the other story in one of the other Gospels, that your homework assignment for today.

It seemed everyone was healed in Jesus day but healing by Jesus was for a purpose, it was to spread the Gospel far and wide and the multitude kept coming. The question did we ask Jesus to heal, did we approach the throne of God in prayer. Did we see our unworthiness, that we knew Jesus only need to confirm he would heal us by his word, that we could wait on our healing or receive our healing in our life, if we grasp we need to wait for God's timing. King David in Psalms 103, praised God for being the healer of all his diseases but lost his son from illness due to his sin. The constant conflict of God ability to heal, our unworthiness to be healed, and God stretching forth his hand to heal anyway. God's correction leaving David with a wound to his heart, but not without eternal hope.

Do I have problem with Jesus healing ministry, no, but I know that when I ask Jesus his healing comes in many forms. Those that are completely healed, have the responsibility to testify to someone else when it is a miracle. Our faith is often not, if God can heal but will he heal on this side of eternity. No one is unworthy in regards to asking God(Father, Son and Holy Spirit) for healing. Sometimes the waters of healing are stirred for a testimony of his power and greatness to both the unsaved and the saved. To testify God is still with us and desires to heal us, both spiritually, mentally and physically that we need to pray, and seek God healing power to deliver us.

Waiting for God timing is not always easy, man born blind was not healed until age fifty. The cripple man at the pool of Bethesda(John 5) how long had he waited for healing. There people with lost of limbs that had to wait for artificial limbs that could allow them to live almost completely normally, People wear glasses to correct there vision, but sometimes glasses do not help one see. People like to throw the fact that not everyone is healed in believers face to ask how can you still believe with so many sick. It because those who were healed, those who experienced even spiritual and physical healing were changed by the power of God enough that our wait is no longer in vain. We know our waiting maybe on the day of our redemption from this earth. Our salvation comes with obedience to God's word upon faith in Jesus that his word is true. That when we act upon it we see changes in our life and the lives of others. That God's word still has power. Centurion knew Jesus words had power and so only asked for him to speak the word and he take no more of his time up. Power of Jesus word testifies to our heart that Jesus is real and he died for us for our spiritual salvation if we will believe.

It okay to struggle with what we physically preceive through our five senses. It not okay to remain in our preception/struggle if Jesus power to heal is real. It means we need to continually seek God's healing. We know our soul is cleanse upon the day of when one first believed in Jesus. To study and to see the change in ourself and others by his word is power. Make sure if you are doubting you searching for the answer in the right place and asking God for the answer to help you with unbelief and questions. I have prayed for healing of my eyes a lot longer then my healing from chronic pain. I suffered with chronic pain 14 years from the day of my healing. My eyes have been bad as long as I can remember, with eyewear I use to see okay, today it not so, but I feel it is better at times. What am I saying can I give up hope of being healed when wearing glasses, no but reality is healing comes in God's timing. Jesus is willing, but we must be willing to wait, to receive to have hope that he will.

Dear Heavenly Father, I come throne knowing your power to heal all my diseases and know waiting is sometimes part of the process. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Psalm 103:1-5 KJV
1 A Psalm of David. Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.
2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:
3 Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;
4 Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies;
5 Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's.
