Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Matthew 5:1-12 KJV
1 And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:
2 And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,
3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

Jesus went and taught on a mountain side to the multitude that followed him. His disciples came to him and he began to teach the crowd that followed. He taught them what is known as the sermon of the mount chapter 5 and it goes on for another 2 chapters his preaching. However this first part is called the beatitudes. As a child I had a book called the Beatitudes, it was a blessing to my heart, but I was young when I got the book from a sunday school teacher. I suspect she gone to be with the Lord by now, but the memory of this little short lady about the size of her students teaching her students Bible lessons and doing craft projects with them still come to my memory. She was sweet and cared for her students very much. And she gave this book probably to me after I got saved. In that book was just scripture with beautiful pictures. And I understood not that it was verses till much later. I would look at the pictures because I was still learning to read at the time. The word kingdom was only a verbal word at the time not a written word yet for me, just like the word righteousness was just a word, not even understood, but I had faith in God and Jesus. The blessings of memories like those are what reminds my heart of the blessings of God. I learn the word Beatitude but not the meaning of it. It was like a big word I was trying to learn. I sure my mother told me what it meant. However it was still a big word and that was my mode of concentration. As I got older I was able to finally read the Bible verses completely and it is one book I still occasionally pick up think of that teacher and read the blessings of God and look at the pictures.

There is a point to my story, sometimes the blessings of God are hard to read and sometimes quite easily read. Yet do we understand what it means. The blessings of God are not so easily received when one persecuted, one must be meek, one is mourning and one is poor in spirit. Yet all these will inherit the kingdom of God. To be poor in spirit is to be not rich in faith, or in hope, but having both of these still inherit the kingdom of God. Sometimes faith is weak, but never is one completely without faith. A time of mourning can cause the weakness in faith, because we play the why me game and why did this one have to die, it ruined my budget for the month, or can not survive without them thoughts that cause one to be angry with God for removing that person from one's life. Yet to be meek is to humble before the Lord even when poor in Spirit, knowing with our inability to understand, that God truly has a purpose for our life. Blessed is the peacemaker as well.

God wants to comfort those that mourn. Give to the meek and poor in spirit the kingdom of heaven. He wants those that hungry and thirst for righteousness to be filled with what faith. Those that are merciful, he wants to show them mercy. The pure in heart will see God. We all want to see God but we must be pure in our heart. Our heart must be cleansed by Jesus. Peacmakers are the children of God. There are conditions to inherit the blessings. We must be meek, peacmaker, poor in spirit(humbleness/showing humility before God), we must allow God to comfort us when we are mourning. To know that when we are persecuted there were others before us that were persecuted for faith has well.

To be blessed by God there some blessings that come from God because he is our creator and provides food even for the heathens at times. There is provision on the earth for man to live despite faith. That is a blessing that God does not just destroy the earth because of unbelief. The blessings for the believer come through God's comfort, reassurance of eternity and eternal award in heaven. Blessing of God come in our humility and lack of faith, but God wants to take our poor in Spirit and lift us up and give us the kingdom. If we study the Beatitudes for a little while we learn we all will learn to walk in meekness and humitility, because of the cross of Jesus and the fact we all must bow to the cross. We learn the Beatitudes is every part of all believers and the blessings of God are for all believers to receive. He wants to fill us full of faith, but it takes us coming into his presence with not only thanksgiving but the condition of each blessing. To learn to be each part of each of the blessings. To know that people of faith learn to not be boastful or pride, but humble in spirit, meek in faith, and allowing God's Spirit to comfort and to lift a person up. To know each believer before us has had to go through it. Some even persecuted for faith, because of their choice to be peacemakers, humble, meek, and people of faith.

The multitude was surrounding Jesus but he began to teach about blessings of God's children, of God's children that were hungry to believe. They desire to know this God of Israel, to know the hope Israel had, to know about this Jesus that sat on the hill and taught them. To know the blessings they could have if they would believe. In our weakness God is able to strengthen us and lift us up and allow us to soar like eagles.

Dear Heavenly Father, help us to be strengthen by your word of blessings on our life when we are humble, meek, peacful, righteous and recognize our persecution and problems are nothing that others have not gone through. Give us strength for our day, and blesses our hearts and soul with the hope your word brings to our life. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Isaiah 40:26-31 KJV
26 Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them all by names by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power; not one faileth.
27 Why sayest thou, O Jacob, and speakest, O Israel, My way is hid from the LORD, and my judgment is passed over from my God?
28 Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.
29 He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.
30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:
31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
