Suffer Not

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Matthew 3:13-17 KJV
13 Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.
14 But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?
15 And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.
16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:
17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

How many times do we want someone to leave it alone but they continue to cause argument. Jesus from Galilee to Jordan came unto John to be baptized of him. John argued that he was in need to be baptized by Jesus. Jesus said "suffer it to be so now" meaning to leave alone, do not argue about this. The reason being Jesus going through baptism was fulfilling God's law to fulfill all righteousness. Jesus at his baptism fulfilled the law of righteousness (law of faith, believe in God by demonstrating of his faith by the law of baptism.) Being adherent to the religious law so that God's word would be fullfilled. Most never bring this point out about the law or at least I never heard it preached. I know that Christ came to fullfill the law it quoted more then once, but they never discuss what those words mean beyond that he fullfilled the law of faith, putting to shame those who do not follow the law of faith. His care for the temple before his cross is only a demonstration of his protection of the things of religious law, or belief in God being preserved. He also came to remove the religious law from the legal law. Meaning a separation of church and state. Nation of America is bound by the law of separation of church and state. Yet church do have rights under the law to use the laws of the land for their benefit and protection.

Meaning if the church has a murder, they do not turn the cheek but use the laws of the land to prosecute the killer. Using the laws that destroy, defame a church to their advantage. It like if a person grafti a church wall it is against the law and can be prosecuted by the law of the land. Meaning churches do not have to take being abused, or bullied from the outside and inside its doors. There some things that go inside a church that could be prosecuted for but often over looked unless insurance or some other agency is effected. Meaning the church might choose forgiveness instead of taking something to court that could be consider a crime against them. It is a choice of the elders and ministers of faith and sometimes the whole church is in council over the decision depending on the problem. Jesus did not come to fullfill the law of man, only the law of God.

The law of man was never complete by Christ, because as my area knows that when death penalty is given even if you live they will still kill til you a second time, meaning a man on death row faced the death penalty twice. It actually has happened in our nation, a man faced the electric chair twice, because the law said until death. The first time, the chair fail to function properly. This was in connection to the Pocahauntus murders in Tazewell county, VA. Man found guilty faced the chair twice. Many that knew him said he could never had done the crime. Rome had wanted to would they have tried to keep Jesus in the grave, after his resurrection, I do not know. If they had thought that far of someone actually coming back to life and having a second chance of life. Roman law did not defined death to include even after a few days after being dead then being resurrected, had no thought to kill Jesus twice, instead Roman spread lies that the apostles stole his body. Jesus was no longer in his earthly body but his body had been transformed into his eternal body.

Jesus did not fullfil Roman law by remaining dead, he came up from the grave. He did not remain under the law of Rome. He however fullfilled the law of God by protecting the temple. Daniel did not face the grave so to speak but he got to spend the night with lions that could of killed him, but instead cuddled him up and let him sleep. Next morning the king went to see if Daniel was alive and he was. He came up out of the grave so to speak of the lions den, full whole, not a scratch on him. The point being the law by man can be defied by God's control and not by the control of man. God alone can defied man's law and only by him alone. Meaning Jesus faced the punishment and even died but he rose again, no longer under the law of man but raised up in victory.

Christ baptism fulfilled the law of faith. His parents took and performed the sacrifices of having a son. He was raised to follow the laws of faith and to obey them. Yet by obeying the laws, he fulfilled the laws that he established for the people long ago. Part of Christ duties was to teach in the temple, part of Christ duties as a minister of faith to teach even the gentiles that came to him. Yet healing was a prophetic gift of the Messiah, and gift of Holy Spirit on man. Yet it was only by Christ command and not our own. A beleiver can only make known their request, they are not Christ, but sometimes Christ's does a miracle in a believers life and heals from a disease or delivers from a situation.

Christ came to fullfill the law of faith and his baptism was testimony to the religious leaders that sat by as well as others. And on the particular day as Christ was coming up out of the water God anointed him with the spirit descening like a dove and said from heaven, "this is my Son whom I am will pleased". God marking the fulfillment of the law by Christ Jesus, required by religious faith in God. Must remember that this was done to denote that he was the Messiah whom John spoke about. Water baptism does fulfill the law of faith, but faith alone anoints you with his Spirit as he seals your heart upon belief. We has believers should follow in baptism. Those who are fearful of water, should at least make the attempt to be baptized. Not all church emerse in water, some sprinkle and some pour water. Many churches do emerse a person in water as a sign of faith in Christ Jesus. It is called believers baptism. It also following in the foot steps of Christ as God directs you to perform his will in your life. Ministers of faith are the ones that usually do the baptism. But a christian brother or sister can do the baptism if a minister is not available. It is okay to wait and okay not to wait until a convient time. Baptism in water is only a testimony of faith, and testimony of obedience of faith to follow in Christ footsteps.

Dear Heavenly Father, we thank you that Christ came to fullfill the law and to be testimony to those around him as he fulfilled the law. Help us not to argue over the things you required of your Son, let it be as it was prophesied to be. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Prophetic chapter concerning Christ, in Isaiah 42, only quoting verse that goes with lesson today, but take time to read if you want too.

Isaiah 42:21 KJV
21 The LORD is well pleased for his righteousness' sake; he will magnify the law, and make it honourable.

Matthew 5:17-18 KJV
17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
