22 And he cometh to Bethsaida; and they bring a blind man unto him, and besought him to touch him.
23 And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw ought.
24 And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking.
25 After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and he was restored, and saw every man clearly.
26 And he sent him away to his house, saying, Neither go into the town, nor tell it to any in the town.
Jesus lead a blind man out of the city of Bethsaida. This city was the home of Phillip and Andrew. Just a short history lesson. Phillip and Andrew knew Jesus was the Christ, John 1. Now they are not in the story but this man blind apparently not from birth. Jesus spit on his eyes. and he put his hands upon him and asked what he saw. Men are walking around like trees. Then Jesus puts his hands on his eyes again and his sight was completely restored and he saw every man clearly. The man was not to go back into town but he sent him to his house and not to tell anyone in the town.
Jesus often touches our heart long before he makes us whole. Why it took twice is unclear, scripture does not say. Yet Jesus tells the man not to tell his town. To know he had some sight before based on he knew what a tree looked like, he received particial sight but not full sight. It maybe he did not fully grasp who Jesus was. Someone had taken him to Jesus, and perhaps he did not know who Jesus was, but upon the second touch he could fully see who Jesus was himself.
We introduced as Jesus is the Messiah. Most can agree he taught well, but what can not be understood but by the power of the Holy Spirit that Jesus is the Messiah, the only one upon belief in him that can offer everyone eternal life through God the Father who had sent him to do so. Often faith comes in stages not all at once. Where you are in your journey of faith in knowing Jesus maybe ready to receive but not ready for evidence of full healing of faith.
Dear Heavenly Father, as people learn who your Son is help them see Jesus as the Christ, the Messiah, and all that he is by your word, by the evidence brought to them by your everlasting power. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
