Jesus Declared His Equality
2/06/2023

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

John 5:16-47 KJV
16 And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the sabbath day.
17 But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work.
18 Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.
19 Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.
20 For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel.
21 For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will.
22 For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:
23 That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him.
24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
25 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live.
26 For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself;
27 And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man.
28 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,
29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.
30 I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.
31 If I bear witness of myself, my witness is not true.
32 There is another that beareth witness of me; and I know that the witness which he witnesseth of me is true.
33 Ye sent unto John, and he bare witness unto the truth.
34 But I receive not testimony from man: but these things I say, that ye might be saved.
35 He was a burning and a shining light: and ye were willing for a season to rejoice in his light.
36 But I have greater witness than that of John: for the works which the Father hath given me to finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me.
37 And the Father himself, which hath sent me, hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape.
38 And ye have not his word abiding in you: for whom he hath sent, him ye believe not.
39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
40 And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.
41 I receive not honour from men.
42 But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you.
43 I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.
44 How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only?
47 But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?

There is so much in this passage that one could spend a week or more just writing on what is said. How do you feel Christ own words he considers himself to be equal to his Father and declares himself to be God. Do you feel you are equal to Christ this morning, if you do, do you think yourself to be a God. Some religions encourage people to think of themselves as God, but Christianity never believed they themselves were God but Christ was equal to his Father as he declare and he was in submission to his Father's will. Our submission to God is not equal to Christ. Even Christ had to in the flesh declare not his own will but his Father's. Was his will different or was it only example on how as believer, we needs to be by following Christ example in the garden of his Father's will. God in human flesh explaining he knows we struggle with his will for us. Christ knew he would rise again. The Father could raise the dead and so Jesus would raise the dead also.

What does any of this have to do with love, God coming as his Son, not has himself, to demonstrate his love for us. Yet his Son is separate because of his flesh. The flesh being the part destructible that must be transformed into incorruptibility with the resurrection. His flesh no more but transformed into the likeness of his flesh. His flesh no more but transformed to be incorruptible and seen by disciples and others. The question that comes is can man love Jesus when they could not receive

That one question I get kind of angry when i think how different each human is. Time of Israel at the Exodus receive Moses as intercessor between God and themselves but received not God. It took time for them to receive God's love. It sounds crazy when we realize God got them out of Egypt into the desert. Yet they seen all the plagues and storms in Pharoah land that God could do, that did not depict a loving God. They were fearful of him. People are still in fear of God. Yet I can say we are not all the same, and if we love Jesus we love God also. Can you love God without his Son or his word. No, the answer is word of life is true, and to love a lie better then truth is to be in opposition to God. Man is often loving the option to God, more then truth. The lie seems easier then the truth. Yet to love Jesus is to love God for God so loved us to send us Jesus, to give us his word his testimony of who he is.

Can people receive who you are as a person or do they perfer the lies about you. Do they want the truth or the lies. People love gossip and rumors more then they love truth. They are actors in the world and their lives are always full of gossip and rumors about people, without the truth about people. People love the gossip. God loves his people but he wants them to receive truth. To receive the truth of who his Son is and who is equal to him. Hard to see Jesus equal if you believe he is a devil as the Jews did. There was change in how Jews felt about Jesus from baby in the manger to the man he became. He was not the Messiah they were looking for. Yet Jesus is clear about several things to search what the scriptures to know what the scriptures declared about him and the work he would do, including healing the sick and raising the dead.

Just remember we are never Jesus, but we are to do his will, follow in his example of how to behave to act, to live. None of us do that perfectly but Jesus. Do you act polite when you have intruder in your home, no you tell them to get out and maybe not with nice words. No one does. Jesus was all the time call the Pharisees and Sadduccees vipers. Why because they were in denial of who Jesus was, in denial of how to live for God, they had become organization of trying to keep control of the people and restrictions instead of a follower of God's love. Jewish people were already emulating the attitude of the religious leaders when they question Jesus about who he is and his purpose.

It leaves questions I sure it will, but what I hope to do is help you through some of this thought process of how Christ was nailed on the cross when he was a man of good works. Man of miracles, Man of authority over God's creation. Jesus came showing us his submission to the Father and willing to do the will of His heavenly Father God. God demonstrating in the flesh what he expected from all of us as believers in faith. Yet the Jewish leaders would cause the crowd to shout crucify.

Dear Heavenly Father, help us to be about your will in our live, desiring truth more then the lies of the enemy. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Luke 22:39-46 KJV
39 And he came out, and went, as he was wont, to the mount of Olives; and his disciples also followed him.
40 And when he was at the place, he said unto them, Pray that ye enter not into temptation.
41 And he was withdrawn from them about a stone's cast, and kneeled down, and prayed,
42 Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.
43 And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him.
44 And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.
45 And when he rose up from prayer, and was come to his disciples, he found them sleeping for sorrow,
46 And said unto them, Why sleep ye? rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation.
