Do You Love Jesus 2/28/2023
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisJohn 5:37-42 KJV
37 And the Father himself, which hath sent me, hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape.
38 And ye have not his word abiding in you: for whom he hath sent, him ye believe not.
39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
40 And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.
41 I receive not honour from men.
42 But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you.
John 5 is a discourse of who Jesus is and that his Father had sent him and so forth. We get in a state of seeing Jesus discuss with the Jews his status of leadership. Whether he is the Messiah or not. Whether he from God or not. When we get to verse 37-42 these verse speaking of the word not abiding in those who were attacking Jesus on his authority and power to give eternal life to someone. The problem being they knew the scriptures. Half the problem in the churches in our world could be solved with just taking time using the word for the discussion of the problem. Yet would anyone hear God's word. We have to admit to hear God's word to know what it says. Eternal life came from obeying God's word. Jesus was and is the hope of eternal life. He is the one to give the hope, why him being the word of God in the flesh. Before the word became flesh it always gave hope in times of trouble and in times of need. The most important things the word taught was to love the Lord. Yet the Jews that were questioning Jesus did not know to love God or to love their fellow man. The ignorance of the word of God is common in religious folks. It true. I can get stump as well, why because I know God's word, I do not always hear it. Why because faith is something ever growing in one's heart and our willingness to heed what God says is not always in our heart in the since of saying I will obey, I will follow, I accept what you are trying to teach me and so forth. That okay. Why as believer we have the blood of Christ that covers our sin today and forever. What we do not have is the Zcommon forebearance of faith to understand love at all times. To love God to love Jesus, to love others as ourselves.
Is love healing, when one loves and forgives there something that happens, that can not be undone, why because true love forgives and lets the past go, not always without correction but with mercy an grace of God. The confusion of who Jesus was came from lack of knowledge of the word of God and it comes with a lack of understanding because we ever seeing but not always preceiving what we see. If you dig deep enough in scripture you will find that salvation is promised from the beginning of the book to the end by faith. Faith in who God and the word and Messiah in the flesh. Faith must come first for salvation. Then obeying the word after receiving the word as truth. We hold on to the truth of the word.
When you think someone wrong study the scriptures, examine, use a search engine in a Bible app, it is my favorite tool. Use commentary, use other Bible helps to just search out what being said. Jesus is explaining to the Jews but they really are not listening, they are angry because Jesus is not what they thought He should be. Remember is Jesus who you thought he would be. Do you love Jesus?
Dear Heavenly Father, you gave your word and your son in the flesh to testify of you and to save us from our sins. We gladly receive your word, your Son and your love for us while we were yet sinners. Help us to love others and share your word and truth with them that they may know Jesus. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
Continual Scripture Study: Acts 17:10-11 KJV
10 And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews.
11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received thed word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.
