Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisLuke 2:41-52 KJV
41 Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the passover.
42 And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast.
43 And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it.
44 But they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a day's journey; and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance.
45 And when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him.
46 And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions.
47 And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers.
48 And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing.
49 And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?
50 And they understood not the saying which he spake unto them.
51 And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.
52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.
Jesus is considered the perfect child. I often wonder how many goody two shoe Christian parents that display only the perfection of their children, cause there children their own rebellion and rebellious ways without meaning. Most children are good in general, because they mimick role models in there life without meaning too. We think of billions of people in the world and most obey common sense laws of compassion even with the bah humbug attitude. Even drug addicts and some alcoholics are maskers of kindness. Yet it is evil people that destroy society. Jesus in all his perfection escaped his parents knowledge of his where about's not out of disbedience, but being a participant of sharing knowledge with his leaders, yet even the leaders would not of understood who he was. When his parents found him, he did get scolded but they understood not how he a child could be about his Father's business. He went home with them and were subject/obedient to his parents.
Obedience is first learn by obeying one's parents and then obeying God, because children some times make faith based choice as a child. Children grow up to make life choices some health and some not so healthy. The rebellious teen because they see new friends not coming to harm or having issues because of their action may follow the world not realizing there anything wrong with what the do or say. Life decision to do it God's way comes first to there heart whether the receive or reject it, it will be their choice.
As believers we go through different development stages that our Lord never had too though he experience every part of growing up into full adulthood. His ministry never starting to age 33. Yet his childhood is not recorded in earliest records of the Gospels though there are books that say this was how Jesus grew up they did not make the religious cannon of scripture.
Do we expect our young people of faith to walk in full perfection of Christ the answer is no. What we can expect is they can learn much about life and their own humanity and how the word of God and faith in God is applies to their life and grace of God their Father and Christ our Lord. If these things are instilled, the backslidder knows God's grace is there that their decision to practice and to walk by faith must begin anew. The covering of Christ blood applied through the sanctification process of the Holy Spirit. It not license to seek sinning but a testimony of God grace of ones humanity after salvation.
Scripture says train up a child in the way he should go: and when he his old he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6. Jesus did not have to be concern with backslidding, but God allowed Jesus to face Satan himself concerning temptation of man. He offer everything he already owns and has but he got to face Satan so he knows who Jesus is. Man seems to have to fail with temptation to fully understand their need of God, that their desires will only cause them to want more of what they can not have or what they desire to try and fullfill those longs. But nothing satisfies like Jesus. What do I means he helps show what real joy, love and peace is about. a home of harmony worth more then silver or gold. Provision is God reminding of his love for mankind, and better hope for tomorrow. God does expect people to work, play and most of all worship him. God's greatest gift of his Son and to all is salvation through faith. The security through faith we have a new home in eternity that awaits us.
Dear Heavenly Father help us understand your love through the grace for salvation and the blood is continually applied through the sanctification. Teach us to obey as Jesus obeyed both his parents as a child and all the days of his human life. in Jesus Precious name, Amen. Continual Scripture Study: Proverbs 22:4-6 KJV
