Righteousness 12/02/2023
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisLuke 1:5-7 KJV
5 There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abia: and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabeth.
6 And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.
7 And they had no child, because that Elisabeth was barren, and they both were now well stricken in years.
Walking blamelessly before the Lord. Could a write know this? Not in truth but we can know they were people of faith. Their people by their action we know must have a lot of faith. They are often calm reserved in away that does not say look at me but God above but you may see Jesus in my life. Then there are people that are loud boisterious type in faith almost flaunt their faith. We see people of faith still learning to trust and not yet master the ethiquettes of faith that demonstrates trust and grace in God. It okay Zacharias and Elisabeth was well seasoned with years of faith because of their lineage coming from the priesthood of Aaron son line abia/Abijah(I Chronicles 24:1-10 were King David divided and gave lots too). Elisabeth being one of the daughters from the tribe of the first High Priest Aaron.
Their family line were part of the priesthood. Did that make them righteous? It sometimes appears that way until one remembers the wickness of Priest Eli two sons that were evil. Faith in God is individual. Your family line can carry the hope and promise of faith but you must have that hope and faith in God and Christ Jesus yourself.
Abraham is righteous because he believed in God? Many people say they believe, but are without a personal relationship with God. David family line was royalty not priesthood but he had a relationship with God. Many believe Jesus was sent by God but know not who he is or how it is possible for him to be a part of the trinity or how he can have equality with God the Father or be complete in the godhead bodily(Colossians 2:9). Zacharias was not equal to God nor is Elisabeth they just had faith in God and in the Messiah coming and faith to obey the commandments, that even when life at times seems unfair they practiced obedience willingly. Not because of their family line.
You do not have to be from a ministers family to have faith and hope.You do have to be willing to own up to your own short comings. To acknowledge the wages or paycheck for sin is death but the gift of God comes with eternal life through Christ Jesus. To recognize God's saving grace and saving power does take faith, and our willingness to live a better life because of his great love for us, still takes faith and act of obedience even when things do not seem to be going the way we think they should. The life of faith can be for yours by receiving Christ as Savior and Lord. Have question push the how to be saved link.
Dear Heavenly Father may we grow in faith as we learn to walk with you, in Jesus precious name we pray, Amen. Continual Scripture Study: Romans 4:1-25 KJV
1 What shall we say then that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, hath found?
2 For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God.
3 For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.
4 Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.
5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.
6 Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works,
7 Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.
8 Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.
9 Cometh this blessedness then upon the circumcision only, or upon the uncircumcision also? for we say that faith was reckoned to Abraham for righteousness.
10 How was it then reckoned? when he was in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision.
11 And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised: that he might be the father of all them that believe, though they be not circumcised; that righteousness might be imputed unto them also:
12 And the father of circumcision to them who are not of the circumcision only, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham, which he had being yet uncircumcised.
13 For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.
14 For if they which are of the law be heirs, faith is made void, and the promise made of none effect:
15 Because the law worketh wrath: for where no law is, there is no transgression.
16 Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all,
17 (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.
18 Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be.
19 And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sara's womb:
20 He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;
21 And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.
22 And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness.
23 Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him;
24 But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead;
25 Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification. http://www.turtle30cshell.com
