What Would You Do If God Asked You? Lesson 12 8/12/2023
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisHabakkuk 1:1-6 KJV
1 The burden which Habakkuk the prophet did see.
2 O LORD, how long shall I cry, and thou wilt not hear! even cry out unto thee of violence, and thou wilt not save!
3 Why dost thou shew me iniquity, and cause me to behold grievance? for spoiling and violence are before me: and there are that raise up strife and contention.
4 Therefore the law is slacked, and judgment doth never go forth: for the wicked doth compass about the righteous; therefore wrong judgment proceedeth.
5 Behold ye among the heathen, and regard, and wonder marvellously: for I will work a work in your days, which ye will not believe, though it be told you.
6 For, lo, I raise up the Chaldeans, that bitter and hasty nation, which shall march through the breadth of the land, to possess the dwellingplaces that are not theirs.
In verse one it says the burden which Habakkuk the Prophet did see. One we know the prophet is speaking, but who is he speaking for but God. The prophet cry to God is why do I have to cry out about the sin, and thou will not save. Asking God why he has to preach. Then he begins to preach about what he sees God showing him, the inquity and grievance, spoiling and the violence and the raising up of strife and contention. Reason for is the law is slacked and Judgment never exercised on the people. Wrong judgment continues to proceed. God is showing Habakkuk the corruption of his day so that when he preaches judgment coming it has a reason for it coming. No one can argue if our government will not uphold the law then it will not stand it will fall. The corruption might only be for a time, but it will not last for destruction is on its way. With no righteous judgment law is not given and world becomes corrupt. Simple enough to understand but when we see it in its reality it is a sorrowful day upon our nation.
Lord is speaking to Habakkuk the Prophet hearts and says behold ye among the heathens. Speaking as if Habakkuk is standing in the middle of a crowd of onlookers that are heathens, that God is going to do a work in his day which heathens will not believe though it be told to them. I can almost hear the jeering of the atheist in the crowd of onlookers as the prophet is speaking, saying sure right, believe what you want, I dont' have time for this. Much like people do today that are not believers in God. Lord says he is going to raise up the Chaldeans that will march through their land.
Habakkuk as he preaches speaks from his heart as well as speaking what God instructs even with his questions to God. God is speaking because God see the vastness of sin, even when we blind to it. We find ourselves not seeing sin, or being more like the blind heathens concerning sin and the relationship of sin and God does not coexist except judgment to be render upon it. If corruption is so severe why should God's judgment not come if only to show mercy. God's mercy was running out on the land of Israel, his judgment was coming not one of total destruction for their remnant of God people in Israel.
Yesterday I wrote about Elijah on the Mount Horeb as the wind, fire and the earthquake and God was in none of these. Is it confusing to understand that something we see is not God's judgment and other things are. Is there a difference, yes for God does speak of it in. When we see a storm not all storms come from God through the works of his hands. Beware of natural forces that illuminate our life might not be God judgment. If it comes with prophesy from God you will know it in your own spirit by the Holy Spirit. Let us not pass judgment of every destruction as calling it judgment without knowledge.
Dear Heavenly Father, you bring forth your judgment with a warning, and you claim it as your judgment because of sin int he world or area in which you speaking too. Help us to know the difference when the enemy is marching because of your judgment and when the storm of life is just a storm. In Jesus precious name, Amen. 11 And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake:
12 And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.
