What Would You Do If God Asked You? Lesson 9

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Genesis 18:1-15 KJV
1 And the LORD appeared unto him in the plains of Mamre: and he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day;
2 And he lift up his eyes and looked, and, lo, three men stood by him: and when he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed himself toward the ground,
3 And said, My Lord, if now I have found favour in thy sight, pass not away, I pray thee, from thy servant:
4 Let a little water, I pray you, be fetched, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree:
5 And I will fetch a morsel of bread, and comfort ye your hearts; after that ye shall pass on: for therefore are ye come to your servant. And they said, So do, as thou hast said.
6 And Abraham hastened into the tent unto Sarah, and said, Make ready quickly three measures of fine meal, knead it, and make cakes upon the hearth.
7 And Abraham ran unto the herd, and fetcht a calf tender and good, and gave it unto a young man; and he hasted to dress it.
8 And he took butter, and milk, and the calf which he had dressed, and set it before them; and he stood by them under the tree, and they did eat.
9 And they said unto him, Where is Sarah thy wife? And he said, Behold, in the tent.
10 And he said, I will certainly return unto thee according to the time of life; and, lo, Sarah thy wife shall have a son. And Sarah heard it in the tent door, which was behind him.
11 Now Abraham and Sarah were old and well stricken in age; and it ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women.
12 Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?
13 And the LORD said unto Abraham, Wherefore did Sarah laugh, saying, Shall I of a surety bear a child, which am old?
14 Is any thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.
15 Then Sarah denied, saying, I laughed not; for she was afraid. And he said, Nay; but thou didst laugh.

Do we forget who God is and what he capable of? This story is followed by Sodom and Gomorrah in scripture. Abraham would see the wrath of God poured out on people of disobedience. Did this effect Abraham love life with Sarah, perahaps so. Hopefull you read the story this morning and understand I not going to go over it again beyond the point of Sarah age being a key factor of her laughter, but also understanding something was happening within the year, Sarah would become pregnant and have a child in old age. These men would come again. God sat, ate and talked with Abraham here. The idea of impossibility first planted long ago. Yet we go a few chapters over and they return and Sarah then conceived and had a child they name Isaac.

Faith has always had to do with impossibilities. Is anything to hard for God to do if he has declared he will do. Through out scripture we read of miracles, movements of God in the lives of people without and with faith that God would do something unusual, impossible or just plain down right proof of God's ability to do what he declares. If we focus on what God declares he will do despite science, despite history and despite our own common sense a person will learn to trust in his word based on the evidence of God performing his word in their lifetime. No one can steal that type of faith, because God has instill the impossible being evidence of his power to make it possible.

The other day I read a joke of why the chicken actually cross the road, it was because she was told as soon has she stop laying eggs, the farmer wife would eat her. She cross the road to get eggs. I thought myself, she was will past her egg laying years she had to come with a solution to save her life. She went to the grocery store and bought eggs. Solved her whole problem. There is a point to the story. If Sarah story of the fact she could not have children had not been told no one would of seen the impossible being possible. Why she was past her child bearing years, but when God return then she would conceive. It almost sounds like God covet Abraham wife until you hear she was unable to conceive it past her time. Another theory did God bring Abraham a son from another place? It possible, but she became pregnant after God returned. Sarah concieved and bared Abraham his first born son by rightful wife and not mistress.

God came back and conception took place. Do have enough faith to wait on God's timing. After all Abraham first born son was Ishmael, a son by Sarah's maid. The first time the promise was told to Abraham, Sarah gave Abraham her maid sometime later, perhaps tired of Abraham saying you going to give me a child. The marriage issues caused by the promise and yet not willing to wait on God. Abraham and Sarah would travel during this time period in that year and Sarah would be taken to the King's palace to be his mistress, only for the king to be warned by God in a dream not to touch Sarah. God plans to do something he not going to allow the vessel to be touched that he going to use for his purpose and glory. Sarah was a vessel to carry the offspring of Abraham.

As a believer in Christ I take God's word serious that Sarah conceived by her husband Abraham a baby. We must trust God to perform what we believed he said he can do, and will do in his time table so it will perform the work he requires it to do by build faith, to warn of God's ability, and not least but to establish his power in the heart of the believer. If God tells you something will you take him at his word as promised.

Dear Heavenly Father strengthen our faith by impossibilities in our life, knowing your time table is always best, in Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Genesis 21:1-7 KJV
1 And the LORD visited Sarah as he had said, and the LORD did unto Sarah as he had spoken.
2 For Sarah conceived, and bare Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him.
3 And Abraham called the name of his son that was born unto him, whom Sarah bare to him, Isaac.
4 And Abraham circumcised his son Isaac being eight days old, as God had commanded him.
5 And Abraham was an hundred years old, when his son Isaac was born unto him.
6 And Sarah said, God hath made me to laugh, so that all that hear will laugh with me.
7 And she said, Who would have said unto Abraham, that Sarah should have given children suck? for I have born him a son in his old age.

Matthew 19:26 KJV
26 But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.

Hebrews 11:11 KJV
11 Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised.
