What Would You Do If God Asked You? Lesson 2
8/02/2023

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Luke 18:35-43 KJV
35 And it came to pass, that as he was come nigh unto Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the way side begging:
36 And hearing the multitude pass by, he asked what it meant.
37 And they told him, that Jesus of Nazareth passeth by.
38 And he cried, saying, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me.
39 And they which went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried so much the more, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me.
40 And Jesus stood, and commanded him to be brought unto him: and when he was come near, he asked him,
41 Saying, What wilt thou that I shall do unto thee? And he said, Lord, that I may receive my sight.
42 And Jesus said unto him, Receive thy sight: thy faith hath saved thee.
43 And immediately he received his sight, and followed him, glorifying God: and all the people, when they saw it, gave praise unto God.

If Jesus still walked on the earth today before crowds of people as he did in the days of Israel under Roman rule, what would you do if Jesus asked you what he could do for you? A blind man is begging for money but heard Jesus was passing by he began to beg for mercy from the Son of David(Jesus). The crowd was unhappy he was shouting for mercy, they understood not his plight, but Jesus did, and he had him brought to him and he asked him what he could do for him, and He said that he would receive his sight. Jesus said receive thy sight they faith has saved thee. He then began to praise God.

There is point yesterday lesson a rich man came to Jesus telling Jesus he done everything according to the laws. And Yet Jesus asked are you perfect? Of course Jesus went on to say if you are then sell all you have. The book of Luke does not carry that part of are you perfect(Matthew does). but I am highlighting it now. The man did not talk about faith, he talked about works. This man born blind asked for mercy. When the man that was blind got before Jesus he asked to be healed of his blindness. He wanted to receive what he knew God could do for him. The rich man yesterday wanted to know what he could do to earn his salvation, yet he was Jewish by the law but not by faith. The man born blind not claiming education but acting like a fool, cried even louder when the onlookers rebuked him. He had faith that God could heal him, but he knew not how to receive it. Jesus told him to receive because of his faith.

What did the time of healing bring, it brought hope in hard world to live in and yet for the time it had many modern conviences. No doubt this man that was blind that received his sight was not always blind. He was in a state of trying to survive. He knew his God could heal him, but had not. He knew his God had power but had not healed him. He was loss to how to receive his own healing, something he need desperately he was not ashamed to cry out despite the crowd. He knew who Jesus was and his ability to heal. All he wanted to know is how to receive his healing. Jesus said receive your sight your faith has healed you. He spoke the words of healing to the man who knew he could be healed but could not receive the ability to be healed on his own. Those words from Jesus gave his faith a boost to be able to receive his healing.

Our ability to be healed maybe because we can not receive it. Sometimes it is as simple as that. In Psalms 103 God heals all our diseases. Yet do we receive the word from Psalms 103 as being from God or do we read over it skimming or saying yes Lord I believe, but I am crippled, blind, deaf and so forth. I know myself my own healing could not take place for a time, because part of my ability to be healed had to do with not being able to receive or felt worthy to receive it. Did not matter I was saved by grace, it was not understanding we have to take hold of our faith and believe. Yet sometimes in truth we believe and receive not, because we ask not, or are to much a skeptic with our doubts that we can not receive it. Healing will always come in God's timing when God's people are ready to receive it, it maybe more then mercy seeking at the appointed time of healing from God. God is faithful to deliver at his appointed time.

As man waits on God healing in his time table, our hope and wait will not be in vain. Wait and have faith, and know God is faithful. Remember to ask of God as well. Sometimes we do not receive because in truth we take what life has dealt to us and run with it as far as we can run, never asking God for mercy or deliverance. Remember to ask and pray with expecting God to do great things in one's life. Remember how he answers may not be how we thought he would.

Dear Heavenly Father, if you asked us what we wanted, what would we say? This man asked for healing. Lord help us to remember to ask you for our needs, and desires. Help us to trust you in what you give us to receive, that you know what is best for us. In Jesus precious naem, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Psalm 103:1-5 KJV
1 A Psalm of David. Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.
2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:
3 Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;
4 Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies;
5 Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's.

James 5:13-16 KJV
13 Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms.
14 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:
15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.
16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
