Wonderment
4/10/2023

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Luke 24:9-12 KJV
9 And returned from the sepulchre, and told all these things unto the eleven, and to all the rest.
10 It was Mary Magdalene, and Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, and other women that were with them, which told these things unto the apostles.
11 And their words seemed to them as idle tales, and they believed them not.
12 Then arose Peter, and ran unto the sepulchre; and stooping down, he beheld the linen clothes laid by themselves, and departed, wondering in himself at that which was come to pass.

What was come to pass. I can not imagine for a moment that shock alone of Christ crucifixion without much warning, and then his resurrection on the third day. Yet Jesus prophesied it of his death and resurrection. I grew up with the stories and never question the story. Even with the lies told to the government by the religious leaders. Why believe in the resurrection beyond the tale of the women. The truth lies are there resurrections today in a modern world, 200 years ago I would have wondered without seeing it. Yet with life support to rise again seems possible until you allow time lapse between breaths. The disciples witnessed his death. There was other resurrections before but not the length dead beside Lazarus on record or mental file before the disciples. Lazarus arose so the miracle not seeming to far fetch.

A child like faith that takes the resurrection as a fact, but it the evidence of Lazarus resurrection that makes threes days seem short in comparison. Who seen the empty tomb first, Mary Magdalene, Joanna and Mary the mother of James. Mary of Bethany is not record at being there but I suspect she was or she was taking care of Lazarus after his resurrection. In truth it just not known. Mary Magdalene is said to be a women that seven demons were cast out of. Yet all three were woman that travel with Jesus.

When the Peter arrived at the tomb after hearing the women story, they found empty tomb and the linen cloth laid by themselves. Peter began to wonder. He been present with the disciples when Lazarus was raised. His own mother in law was healed from fever, he had heard the rooster crow three times during his denial and now the tomb was found empty. There was evidence that it was possible during Peter journey with Jesus. However it seem perhaps even impossible for a moment. It would not be until Peter saw him alive that he would believe the story of the women. And he walk in even more wonderment.

Evidence of hearing stories of miracles are much like this event of the resurrection unless you know the person you wonder the truth of the story. I do not think God blames a soul that wonders or even doubts until evidence is received as proof, but I think He is able to prove to us more then we imagine so our faith is assured in him. Do I need to see a resurrection to believe in the impossibility by human standards. The answer is no. Do I need evidence of miracle to believe. The answer is no. The evidence comes to our hearts by the Holy Spirit convicting our hearts to know the reality of his power and who he is in our life.

There is a wonderment when God begins to testify to believers heart and soul. It not something that can be duplicated, and we learn it is God from him teaching us that, not mortal man. I do not know how you process your relationship with God, but I know how God moves in my heart or speaks to me and I don't have to understand your doubts or your question about faith and the empty tomb, all I have to tell you is that evidence of faith came to the disciples of the risen Lord because of miracles that they were present for with Jesus being alive. Without those events I think it be hard to believe with out evidence of a body or a walking being. We looking almost 2000 years after the fact and the evidence of faith still remains in the heart and soul of believer. Of the people that took a chance and said I will believe and receive Jesus as Lord. Our life might be as simple as Abraham walking to a far country or Isaac just meditating in the field as he seen his wife approaching, or dramatic as Lot's escape, Noah building of ark, or Daniel being pulled out of a lion's den still alive. Our walk might be quiet like Ruth and Naomi, or dramatic as Paul's, Peter, and John. Yet God was able to move through his word and Christ in the lives of each believer. The wonderment of faith for each came with the journey.

Dear Heavenly Father the wonderment of Christ arose is just one moment of time to realize the reality our Savior lives not just in our hearts but in heaven today. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Habakkuk 1:5 KJV
5 Behold ye among the heathen, and regard, and wonder marvellously: for I will work a work in your days, which ye will not believe, though it be told you.
