Time And A Purpose 11/22/2022
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisEcclesiastes 3:1-22 KJV
1 To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
2 A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
3 A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
4 A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
5 A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
6 A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
7 A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
8 A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.
9 What profit hath he that worketh in that wherein he laboureth?
10 I have seen the travail, which God hath given to the sons of men to be exercised in it.
11 He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.
12 I know that there is no good in them, but for a man to rejoice, and to do good in his life.
13 And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labour, it is the gift of God.
14 I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth it, that men should fear before him.
15 That which hath been is now; and that which is to be hath already been; and God requireth that which is past.
16 And moreover I saw under the sun the place of judgment, that wickedness was there; and the place of righteousness, that iniquity was there.
17 I said in mine heart, God shall judge the righteous and the wicked: for there is a time there for every purpose and for every work.
18 I said in mine heart concerning the estate of the sons of men, that God might manifest them, and that they might see that they themselves are beasts.
19 For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all is vanity.
20 All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again.
21 Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth?
22 Wherefore I perceive that there is nothing better, than that a man should rejoice in his own works; for that is his portion: for who shall bring him to see what shall be after him?
There is a season for many things and season for many other things and some things are recurring in life. From storms, to peace, war, harmony, to sound of laughter to the sound of tears and yet some recurring more often then others. Solomon wrote the book of Ecclessiates. In his observance as a ruler he seen the toils and pains of man. The king himself was wealthy, not afraid of work either for bodily exercise so he got his hands dirty with others that worked for that purpose. Though he was not a warrior king he still had to for his health beyond just ruling. I was thinking how many of the leaders have worked outside the political field and not just the dignitaries but their children to demonstrate the need to work for knowledge and skills.
The other day I was bit lazy but not really. As we get older we get we learn we do not bend like we use to or stetch as far as we once did. As I looked for my mask, I dropped a receit from purse. In Doctors offices mask are still being worn and in truth it makes sense to do so especially if you are sick with a cold or flu, so hopefully this practice is not going to be foreign completely in some areas of health concerns for especially the elderly and the young. Nothing we do it full proof mind you. However back to the receit. I passed the receit on the floor to my husband his arms are longer, to see if he could pick it up. He been in alot of pain lately, he kind of scrowled at me. I got up and picked it up. my arms are shorter then his. I dropped something again, and the lady across me offered to pick it up, and I said I can get it. It not my inability to move or even stretch a time of laziness perhap. We all have our moment of time, that if we could redo we would redo because of not our incapabilities but our capabilities.
Are we living in our full capacity of our human life. There things as children we understand not. I think how often this king was reasoning in his wisdom the reality of the work and labor of man. The concept of man's busy like behavior verse their time of celebration, their time of peace, their time of relaxation, to the work and toil of man's in the work field of their choosing or non choosing. There is times people have to work so hard they can not even take time to rest, time for even one lazy moment of the day. One second to take even a breather to think to rationalize what going on around them. To knead the bread, let it rise and knead again, rise again and toss in the oven. It that mad dash to the car, to the store to the restuarant, to work, to school, to chores around the house to bed and to rise and begin again. Never thinking for a moment of do I have a minute to think beyond perpetual motion. Man's life time of labor for what, to loose his perpetual motion to think of time gone by and preparation for death.
Riding in the truck last night looking at lights to see if many before thanksgiving, only reminded me there may be a time when I will not even be able to enjoy this and not because I can not see, because my husband is not young man anymore. His driving days still intact, but as he ages it something he might lose with aging and it be time to ride the bus to keep a level of independence. I thinking in my area buses do not run at night even through the park to see the Christmas lights that will be on display in my area starting Thanksgiving night. Elderly get stuck behind the walls of their home never seeing the brilliance of the lights of Christmas. It not always the ability to see but the ability to be around people and enjoy the life around them. We take for granted that time of comradie with other people. It like tail gate parties make no sense unless you like to socialize. Some people do not like to socialize but they do like to be with people they do know. Elderly may go to bed early so you must make a plan if you involve them, and also try and go toward end of season for less of wait time. Tis the season to celebrate Thanksgiving, Hannukkak, Christmas and New Year. Meaning there are also other celebration during this time of year not listed, do not be disappointed if i left something out, it probably not something I participate are involved in. No slight to you if you do.
Back to the inability is often missed by what one could do at one time and not anymore. The days of failing to live up to the same potentials as day before. The lost of life, the lost of humanity in the aging process of life. Being told you must retire or must take leave of what you desire. To be told you can not longer perform, might make you fight much harder only to find your body says no more. The meaning of life and the toil of life Solomon looked hard at in his kingdom at the labor of man, the joys, the hard ache, the ability, tne inability, the passing of time, and found no meaning in God's plan, beyond it was the duty of man to do the work set before him. These things were of God's choosing for man.
As a king Solomon had 800 wives and concumbines. and most men can deal with one wife. Was he wise only to those that sought his wisdom that came from God, but not in the display of his own life or management of it. How many people we look at their life and want to manage to aid, but know people in general do like learning about life on their own. Science and history would say taboo, take a lesson or to from another source to advance your own thinking. Yet few realize God's gift and power in the life of man because they are moving so fast to notice God's handiwork in their path of life.
Yet man needs to rejoice, reward themselves because of the labor of their hands. The labor of their hands on a portion of time. We reward ourselves with food and celebration because of a job well done, we plan a party and say look what we have done. Yet do we see God in our life. Solomon recognize God but he knew man celebration was also in his labor not always a celebration to God. When we eat around the table at Thanksgiving is there a prayer of thanksgiving or just busy munching of food never a thought of thanking God. The celebration of the work and our labor, began long before the first Thanksgiving. Yet the first Thanksgiving after landing on Plymouth Rock came with hard snow and hardship and sorrow because of the winter weather that fell upon them. That year the Indians became friends and taught them how to produce food typical for that region. Taught them about the growing season and the harvest. And the Pilgrims and indians gather together to celebrate not only their labor, not only the harvest but to thank God for his blessings of that labor and harvest. No one gathers food but the farmers, there less and less hunting as years go by, but people still do hunt as a sport not so much for their bellies but to help thin the population of deer, elk, moose, and bear. Yet most do not worry about gathering can goods the stores are open are they not. Thanksgiving becomes another party day with no thoughts of why we celebrate. The meaning loosing something with the passing of time. I try to restock my food this time of year for that reason, but it was cleaning out of older food in the summer. Gardeners clean out by summer usually to plan for summer and fall storage. Never thinking about the preservation of food a necessary evil.
Do we still do those things typical of the season, do we perserve it, or watch the football game. Do we hope for a warm day to enjoy one last warm day before winter truly settles in with family and friends, so what if a sweater or medium coat is needed to be outside during the day. What is my point do we consider that celebrating thanksgiving we really need to praise the one that provided our ability to labor, to provide for our family, to enrich our life in our circumstances. God is even if our income reliance on man in some way, still must come from God, for man brains were made by God who gave the ability to solve our needs and even desires. We leave out God then our brain should become mush, because we forget his blessings of knowledge given so our hands which does bear fruit for a purpose. This time and this season of Thanksgiving and the countdown to Thanksgiving let us thank the Lord for the fruit of our hands, the labor of even feet, the knowledge and skills we are given to perform the work needed doing so we have fruit of labor.
Dear Heavenly Father thank you for the fruit of our labor, the fruit of our hands. The blessings of preservation of our food and our meat for our health of our bodies. Thank you Lord for blessing us. In Jesus precious name, Amen. Continual Scripture Study: Leviticus 26:3-12 KJV
3 If ye walk in my statutes, and keep my commandments, and do them;
4 Then I will give you rain in due season, and the land shall yield her increase, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit.
5 And your threshing shall reach unto the vintage, and the vintage shall reach unto the sowing time: and ye shall eat your bread to the full, and dwell in your land safely.
6 And I will give peace in the land, and ye shall lie down, and none shall make you afraid: and I will rid evil beasts out of the land, neither shall the sword go through your land.
7 And ye shall chase your enemies, and they shall fall before you by the sword.
8 And five of you shall chase an hundred, and an hundred of you shall put ten thousand to flight: and your enemies shall fall before you by the sword.
9 For I will have respect unto you, and make you fruitful, and multiply you, and establish my covenant with you.
10 And ye shall eat old store, and bring forth the old because of the new.
11 And I will set my tabernacle among you: and my soul shall not abhor you.
12 And I will walk among you, and will be your God, and ye shall be my people.
