God's Blessings In The Early Church: Lesson 11 5/12/2022
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisActs 4:18-37 KJV
19 But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye.
20 For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.
21 So when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding nothing how they might punish them, because of the people: for all men glorified God for that which was done.
22 For the man was above forty years old, on whom this miracle of healing was shewed.
23 And being let go, they went to their own company, and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said unto them.
24 And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, Lord, thou art God, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is:
25 Who by the mouth of thy servant David hast said, Why did the heathen rage, and the people imagine vain things?
26 The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord, and against his Christ.
27 For of a truth against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were gathered together,
28 For to do whatsoever thy hand and thy counsel determined before to be done.
29 And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word,
30 By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus.
31 And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.
32 And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common.
33 And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.
34 Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold,
35 And laid them down at the apostles' feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need.
36 And Joses, who by the apostles was surnamed Barnabas, (which is, being interpreted, The son of consolation,) a Levite, and of the country of Cyprus,
37 Having land, sold it, and brought the money, and laid it at the apostles' feet.
I get caught off guard everytime I hear all other music other then Christian is Satanic. Truth is may have no value on the otherside of eternity, but it has value on this side of earth. Meaning that music can often tell a story of the struggle, heartaches and joys in this life and it does not always celebrate God's mercy and grace or God being the solution to the heart ache, but it is expression the story of someone else's emotions with or without Christ. It may not have spiritual properties that is healthy to spiritual health in one sens, but it has value in regards to someone else's ability to express their own struggles. As a christian it is true to live that Christ center life, but reality not everything in our world is Christ center, we must know there is a difference to have Christ in the center of all the things in our life. What is the point I making this morning, music is expression or we need a Christ center life and to know the difference of things we hear to know this. Not to necessarily remove yourself from the emotions of the world. Can Christ not heal those hurts and those woes. Can not joy be found from God in the joy of the world? You will have to dig deep in thinking of joyful songs to answer. Christ had wine at a wedding and center groups of Christians frown on wine. Yet it is because of the abuse of wine and not wine itself. Even that wedding the man was surprised that the best wine was last, because the cheap wine is given after guest become drunk. Meaning this is not a party of what some would call faith, though it be a wedding. Culture carries many things that are both good and bad in it. Can you embrace music that not Christian, but about life in general or just happy lyrics.
Today we see the Jewish religious leaders tell Peter and John not to preach in the name of Jesus anymore. The response to religious leaders was simply it is better to obey God rather then man. However it interesting the next portion of scripture they preach in the holy child Jesus name, Not only his name, but they also quote scripture dating back to King David own words in Psalms 2 of why do the heathen rage and the people imagine a vain thing? Yet were they nit picking over simple word the the name of Jesus, why? because Peter found away to obey the religious leaders and disobey them and honor God and Christ at the same time. How does this tie into music of the worldly kind. The heathens are much the same as Peter and John in finding loop holes to obey and disobey all at the same time. In such it often hidden in lyrics of love, hope with no real hope, only because they yearn for the hope of Christ and a better tomorrow that may for them never come. Does Peter have only a little rebel spirit or a major one yet to come.
There is a point culture would of said hey look at Peter preaching in the name of the Holy Child Jesus and he definitely in fear of those religious leaders. Yet at the same time, they would of drawn back and made it wise about their own action of drunkness, wild living with a wedding party that Jesus was in attendance and supplied the best wine. They heathens get our hyprocrisy. Yet they see the believer going on in faith in Christ Jesus and his name. If it had not been for the power of that name, the believers would of turn back to the temple and forsaken Peter and John. If it were not for the miracles and wonders by the power of the Holy Spirit, they would not had continued in worship, because no one would of listened to them. Peter and John were still testing the water so to speak, step up to their knees and not sure if going up to their hips in trouble and almost drowning would keep them alive or if fully immersing in the name of Jesus would be enough to protect them for a time, instead they use the name the Holy Child Jesus, so only their calfs of their legs were wet.
The musicians of our world are willing to step in mud to there ankles as long as their water to wash the mud off with(meaning saving grace). They preach a little hope on the road of wild life, never to get fully immersed in the world's struggle to survive. I never heard how Peter step in a little water to keep from drowning in the name of Jesus when preaching. God provides a way for his people to escape. With the anointing of the Holy Child Jesus, the power of God still moved upon the people.
Those who are witnessing are often in a little mud, that cover by the blood of Jesus, covered by his name's power to deliver from sin. When will man have the confidence to obey God fully and not worry about what others say, to go forth in boldness. The minute God allowed the Spirit to fall and the place shaken did Peter no longer hold back but preached with boldness. People that witnessed began to gather things they had to help with the early church. Some even selling their land and giving the money to the early church.
There Christian musicians that sing of this world, but they testify during there concert about Jesus. When the name of Jesus or God gets into a song of this world thank Jesus, because it is a reminder to the heathens of the reality of God even if they believe not. There places in this world it only seems like a little light of God, but in reality the boldness for some to just place it there, takes power of the Holy Spirit.
Dear Heavenly Father, we pray your light in darken world will grow so others can see the brightness of it, that they see the grace in your light. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
Continual Scripture Study: Psalm 2:1-12 KJV
1 Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?
2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying,
3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.
4 He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.
5 Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.
6 Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.
7 I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.
8 Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.
9 Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.
10 Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth.
11 Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.
12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.
