The March Through The Gospels: Lesson 2 3/2/2022
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisMatthew 3:13-17 KJV
13 Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.
14 But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?
15 And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.
16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:
17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
Why is it important for a new Christian to be baptized? One it is a testimony of faith in Jesus. Two, it is the simplest act of demonstrating one's testimony of being immerse in water a symbol of one's sins being wash away and one being raised up into newest of life with Christ. Jesus was baptized though he was without sin for the very purpose of demonstrating the will of the Father in his own life. Not only the will of his Father, but for us to be able to follow in like fashion as demonstration of repentance of sin. Christ very sin against man being buried with his death and resurrection, to be with God the Father. Christ testimony of his cross to come and while he walked this earth.
In John 2 in the continual scripture study down below, we learn that John testifies of Christ baptism and not only testifies but two of his own disciples follow Jesus and becomes his disciples. There names are Andrew and John. However John account of the event of baptism is not as graphic as the picture of the other three Gospels, despite testifying of the Holy Spirit coming upon Jesus after his baptism and saying "this is my Beloved Son whom I am well pleased". John the Baptist knew who Jesus was according to John Baptist because the event was preceded by God's own testimony to John the Baptist heart and mind that Jesus would be the one taking away the sins of the world as the Lamb of God. John then would bear record by the baptism he did of water to when the Spirit of God descended like a dove upon Jesus. God testified of his only Begotten Son when he was baptized.
If I could say anything about baptism God is the one that truly anoints and it not with water, but by his Spirit. We are to be anointed with his word, and knowledge of who Christ is to be saved. Today lesson is short and to the point. It only the second of the month. The reason being some of what seen in the Gospel is just that simple, Be baptized in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Be immersed in the knowledge of who three are is the essential element to faith in God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit and yet they are one. All three will back each other up as one. One solid force. This unity is not seen anywhere around the world, not even in families. An agreement sign by three people might be sign and sealed document by humans, but how many will break the agreement before it is all over, or want to change an agreement. With God all things are perfect unity, no division or separation beyond the physical demonstration of the person of the Trinity. We see God the Father walking in the garden, Jesus from Birth and the move of the Spirit upon the people. The Spirit is the only one to bring the unity of Father and Son to the people, and enable them to be unified in the walk of faith. Walking in the footsteps of Christ as a believer in baptism is an important part of saying I want to be unified with God not has God, but part of his human team of love, peace, hope, faith and so on. It is a step of faith, not to be confused by ritualistic act of or a form of religious legalism. Those afraid of water that up to your waist fear not, because meany have been baptized that were affraid of water and come out of the water praising God. The Father God in the story of Christ Baptism is seen to be in heaven whose voice comes down and the dove being God's Spirit ascending upon Christ shoulder and Christ in the water coming up out when God anoints him for public service declaring him as his Son. The anointing a testimony to the heart of believer that God was pleased with his son.
Dear Heavenly Father, help us to walk in your grace and faith yielding to your baptism by your Spirit of who You the Father, your Son and Holy Spirit is, In Jesus precious name, Amen.
Continual Scripture Study: John 1:29-40 KJV
29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
30 This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me.
31 And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water.
32 And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him.
33 And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.
34 And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.
35 Again the next day after John stood, and two of his disciples;
36 And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God!
37 And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.
38 Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and saith unto them, What seek ye? They said unto him, Rabbi, (which is to say, being interpreted, Master,) where dwellest thou?
39 He saith unto them, Come and see. They came and saw where he dwelt, and abode with him that day: for it was about the tenth hour.
40 One of the two which heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother.
