Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Genesis 45:1-18 KJV
1 Then Joseph could not refrain himself before all them that stood by him; and he cried, Cause every man to go out from me. And there stood no man with him, while Joseph made himself known unto his brethren.
2 And he wept aloud: and the Egyptians and the house of Pharaoh heard.
3 And Joseph said unto his brethren, I am Joseph; doth my father yet live? And his brethren could not answer him; for they were troubled at his presence.
4 And Joseph said unto his brethren, Come near to me, I pray you. And they came near. And he said, I am Joseph your brother, whom ye sold into Egypt.
5 Now therefore be not grieved, nor angry with yourselves, that ye sold me hither: for God did send me before you to preserve life.
6 For these two years hath the famine been in the land: and yet there are five years, in the which there shall neither be earing nor harvest.
7 And God sent me before you to preserve you a posterity in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance.
8 So now it was not you that sent me hither, but God: and he hath made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord of all his house, and a ruler throughout all the land of Egypt.
9 Haste ye, and go up to my father, and say unto him, Thus saith thy son Joseph, God hath made me lord of all Egypt: come down unto me, tarry not:
10 And thou shalt dwell in the land of Goshen, and thou shalt be near unto me, thou, and thy children, and thy children's children, and thy flocks, and thy herds, and all that thou hast:
11 And there will I nourish thee; for yet there are five years of famine; lest thou, and thy household, and all that thou hast, come to poverty.
12 And, behold, your eyes see, and the eyes of my brother Benjamin, that it is my mouth that speaketh unto you.
13 And ye shall tell my father of all my glory in Egypt, and of all that ye have seen; and ye shall haste and bring down my father hither.
14 And he fell upon his brother Benjamin's neck, and wept; and Benjamin wept upon his neck.
15 Moreover he kissed all his brethren, and wept upon them: and after that his brethren talked with him.
16 And the fame thereof was heard in Pharaoh's house, saying, Joseph's brethren are come: and it pleased Pharaoh well, and his servants.
17 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Say unto thy brethren, This do ye; lade your beasts, and go, get you unto the land of Canaan;
18 And take your father and your households, and come unto me: and I will give you the good of the land of Egypt, and ye shall eat the fat of the land.

God's prophesy to Abraham revealed his children would be taken to a foreign land and return home to the promise land 400 years later with great substance(Genesis 15:13). This is how they got to Egypt, through selling their brother Joseph to the Ismaelites traveling in a caravan that were slave traders and sellers of merchandise. Joseph was taken to Egypt and while there he suffered for a time, until God raised him out of the jail cell to prophesize to Pharoah. Pharaoh upon hearing the prophecy put Joseph in charge of his store house. And Joseph gained great wealth from his position. His Father Jacob thought Joseph was dead and for that reason did not search for him. However his brothers who sold him had come to Egypt in search of grain, or food for the family, and soon Jacob sons would be returning to tell their father that Joseph was alive and wanted him to come to Egypt.

Faith in God and yet the knowledge of ask God for provision does not seem to have occurred yet in the Israel family. Meaning what this relationship with God was developing in a tribe of God's people called Hebrew people/Israelites. If we stop there, you going to ask what? What you mean developing. In fifty-three years of growing up what have I learn about God, I did not know before either because of experiencing God in that way or learning to obey and trust him in my own life. The Israelite nation started as being a primitive cultures that was still developing but very modern for their day. If we trace our own American roots how primitive was the life style here, for some ancestor knew how to build a home and plant a garden, while other ancestors would of been hunter and gathers only. Meaning a process of development skills are learn over time based on understanding of life processes and survival. From a nomadic tribe to the city living based on what productivity of area and food sources even in harsher times of the year. Egypt is a large city to the nomadic Israelites who homeland allowed them to move their great herds around their land. Land being bigger then a large ranch. Yet if Israelites remain on the land they would starve because of a lack of food in famine. God had blessed Egypt with knowledge to bring them light to his presence. Jacob family had that knowledge and Joseph his Son was a ruler in Egypt because of jealous brothers that sold him.

The truth of the matter Joseph is sitting in the glory and riches of not only his own hands but the wealth of Egypt. But it was not by his hands he sat there alone, but the God of creation had placed him in position to receive such glory and possessions. He restore Joseph more then he was worthy back in the homeland of Israel or even in cell of Pharaoh's jail. Joseph would even have children. Here is Joseph been in Egypt and has to tell his brother's who he is, though he hestitated to do so. Yet he wept when they returned with their youngest brother. Joseph tells his brothers not to be alarmed or fearful, for God had sent ahead of them to put him in a place to save his family life. He desire to send for the remaining of his family to enjoy the wealth of Egypt.

What does this have to do with a nation growing up in faith, God provision before us having knowledge of their need, with satisfying all their desires as well. Yet when their need was known to them they went in search of food, to find God's glory waiting for them by his design through their prosperous brother Joseph. To Abraham the land of Israel was beautiful and grateful for it. A different need meet and a different learning about God that could come through promises to the believer. No promise here, only search to find God's grace in their life. Maybe not fully understanding of God's grace or blessing for lack of experience, but it was manifest through Joseph. I do not doubt Joseph's brother prayed, and followed in religious custom of their father and mother. However this would of been a wake up call to know God's provision for themselves. God going before them in his glory to do a work in their life never seen. Each generation must experience God first hand along with his provisions. This is important faith and hope of eternal life. Knowledge of who God is. Egypt was learning and Pharaoh was Joseph son in faith. A country that had been who knows how long without the knowledge and glory of God, but it all being seen with fullfillment of the interpretation of a dream fully understood by Joseph by the power of God.

Four years come and Hebrew people will have been enslaved by Pharaoh who forgot the history of why the people lived in the land of Goshen, a place inside the country of Egypt and he did not want to let the people go. God then would demonstrate his wrath to Egypt. Those of us that believe will see God's wrath come to the earth. Some people have had a glimpse of God's wrath or fury, but it only a glimpse of what will come to the children of disobedience. Not every storm is because of individual or corporate sin, it can be a time of testing like Job. Yet each storm symbolizes the severed of what God has the power to unleash as well as the grace of survival that God can bestow on the individual and a group of people.

Blessings and revival of faith and hope and yet if one fail to yield to revival and remain in faith, God will send a destructive force to destroy. Revival is not for one night or week, it must continue in the hearts of the believer. Anyone can sing God's praise in the streets for one day, but one must learn to do it for a life time. God was teaching his people through Egypt, as a nation the glory and protection of God along with his wrath over a period of time.

The call of God on a nation, call of God on the individual. Call of God on individual despite a nation. We has individual or as a people must know destruction will come like in the time of Jonah when Ninevah was spared because of repentance and then in the future would be destroy because revival did not remain. God wants to show his glory through revival, but also show his wrath if we fail to obey. Our decision to follow should be because of his blessings and provision. Of knowing he goes before his children and protects their back.

Dear Heavenly Father, you showed your provision and wealth to your children despite their sin, but because of their need. God send forth revival to be Lord daily of our life. One to go before in troublesome time despite sin and going behind to protect. Help us to remember your mercy to your children. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Romans 13:1-2 KJV
1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.
2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.

Colossians 1:26-27 KJV
26 Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:
27 To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:

Romans 5:1-4 KJV
1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
3 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;
4 And patience, experience; and experience, hope:
