Mercy Glorified

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Psalm 86:1-17 KJV
1 A Prayer of David. Bow down thine ear, O LORD, hear me: for I am poor and needy.
2 Preserve my soul; for I am holy: O thou my God, save thy servant that trusteth in thee.
3 Be merciful unto me, O Lord: for I cry unto thee daily.
4 Rejoice the soul of thy servant: for unto thee, O Lord, do I lift up my soul.
5 For thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon thee.
6 Give ear, O LORD, unto my prayer; and attend to the voice of my supplications.
7 In the day of my trouble I will call upon thee: for thou wilt answer me.
8 Among the gods there is none like unto thee, O Lord; neither are there any works like unto thy works.
9 All nations whom thou hast made shall come and worship before thee, O Lord; and shall glorify thy name.
10 For thou art great, and doest wondrous things: thou art God alone.
11 Teach me thy way, O LORD; I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name.
12 I will praise thee, O Lord my God, with all my heart: and I will glorify thy name for evermore.
13 For great is thy mercy toward me: and thou hast delivered my soul from the lowest hell.
14 O God, the proud are risen against me, and the assemblies of violent men have sought after my soul; and have not set thee before them.
15 But thou, O Lord, art a God full of compassion, and gracious, longsuffering, and plenteous in mercy and truth.
16 O turn unto me, and have mercy upon me; give thy strength unto thy servant, and save the son of thine handmaid.
17 Shew me a token for good; that they which hate me may see it, and be ashamed: because thou, LORD, hast holpen me, and comforted me.

The word holy in the first verse means man of God, faithful to God, and/or godly. One of the things that helps people write with God is to think abstractly, to think not necessarily has one is but how one is outside of the religious realm and reading different subjects. I do not always do this well, but today, I looking at that word holy and saying am I holy by this definition as the King declared his holiness before God. Then King David goes on to say show mercy Oh God. We all need God's mercy, that a given, but in reality do we see his mercy in our life? Back to holiness, if we are holy are we holy as God is holy, the answer is no. He is faithful to his people but he is also perfect, and holy in the form of perfection, is not King David or me even. A believer, someone that desires to be faithful to God and God alone. Righteous comes by faith, it does not make us perfect, just people of faith, that believe God, despite our opposition at times to what he declares to our hearts, minds and the world around us. To believe God has never entailed that humanity was perfect in obedience, though our strife should be to be good soldiers of the cross of Jesus. When we ask for God's mercy we are asking God to be merciful for our failings not only to believe, but to be obedient to him. I think if we truly believed God's word we would be more likely to be obedient to it.

I was talking to a minister about the strip mining one day several years back, that was going on down in the Mcdowel county. It was of course a reality. The minister was in favor of the strip mining being down in West Virginia, but of course his money was gained by employment in another field that took quite a lot of business from the strip mining company. I thought to myself how can you support it, do you not know heavy flooding will come because of the strip mining. Of course the minister was not the boss of the company, he only did what was told to do. Like so many people trapped in a situation only reaping the profits of bad adventures by bad company. I warned him about flooding that would come. And the next day in the paper it flooded that whole area. I died. Not literally but it was almost if I had foreknowledge of the event. The difference in foreknowledge and knowledge is too different things. Yet those types of conversations can scare an individual to death as if God said you right, the man is wrong and you see he now witness an act of God.

Now my life is like this much of the time. My husband and I had set up a canopy we own for five years, and it was luxury item to us. However my husband said should we tie it down, and I said it not suppose to rain or have high winds. The next day it looked as if it might storm, and I said honey maybe we should take the canopy down. Two hours later it went sailing across the street. Is this God, or an old person rattle in their heads of past events that say you better anchor, or take it down because a storm brewing. Or is God so involved in our life that when destruction is coming there is a warning system either built in, or Spirit call? I do not always know, but I do know that either way God's involved.

David is praying and declares God mercy, forgiveness to all that call on him. I standing in place did I believe God or act only on my own in not even regarding my own instincts, and/or God's Spirit concerning the canopy. Most would say this is foolishness, and I say beware, because often instincts and God's Spirit if in tuned with God is going to be correct instinct, even if one does not follow one's own advice, or God's Spirit. I knew from years gone by strip mining can cause flooding if a heavy rain comes and it done on a hillside, that my limitation and knowledge of strip mining other then pictures I have seen. It is knowledge, but is it God's warning system built in our brains. More of concern what I had seen on the news I suspect. When it unfolds God's showing someone wisdom and knowledge they have based on what one has learned. It not always foretelling. Yet it can feel like it is. Prehaps God allows these experience of look I told you so moments, to say something else. God's people in a region that poor need helping hand. The church's limitation to help was foreseen as well because of older people.

God often shows us the little things we do effect a bigger broader picture. It the little things we support that is in option to the holiness of God that is more concerning. One sin of Adam and Eve caused a multitude of sin. Our perfection is not based on our sin, but our willingness to obey God, even if it not effecting our world directly.

What we should do is not always based on what we do. Paul talks about this in Romans 7. He talks about those things that are not beneficial to us. Can a Christian minister in truth support gay rights and not feel condemnation from other Christians. Yet Romans 1 declares God turned man over to their sin, because man worshipped his creation more then him. If you are a crafter you hope people like you more then the object you create. Especially if you make something for another family member.

Under the laws of our nation we can declare they have rights as human beings because we all are unholy by our actions, but not our faith. Our holiness being in direct option to God. There are things we do that cause destruction because we do not use the brains and warnings of God first. There things we support without really concerning that outcome of that support. There are things we do everday that may or may not be beneficial to others but is beneficial for the moment to ourselves.

King David wrestled with sin, and righteousness back and forth, and back and forth. He knew the altar was before the Lord in the temple, never entering the holies of holies, but had danced before the ark undignified. Yet his sin was not the dance, but his appearance, for Michal his former wife and daughter of Saul had seen him and it displeased her. Our displeasure of sin, is not the same as saying or allowing something to exist, it how it effects others.

Our worship of God in his presence may be honor in our heart, but is our actions godly or appropiate for worship. David humbled himself before God even when his sin was pointed out, no matter what it was, but do not interfer with David and his worship, no matter how unappropiate his attire was. David declare to Michal his worship would be more indignified then that. Michal instead of be found with favor with God lost her ability to have a child.

Age appropiate language for children under the age of five concern sexual immorality, and the information in the classroom. I more concerned what type of sexual immorality are they wanted to talk to five and six years about. The truth is nothing wrong with knowing names of private parts, and knowing what abuse is in regards to six foot distancing behavior. Yet when they want to flaunt their sexuality in a classroom I have to say why can you not just flaunt your skills and goals instead, why does it always have to be about your sexuality declaring your rights. They not talking about how they were bullied and the bullying is evil, they want to flaunt that two men or women love each other and it okay life style and Bible declares it is not, but to law makers and the constitution they able to stand religiously on Romans 1. I do not need to know about closed doors of a bedroom. I only need to know about your skills, talents, and maybe your dreams. In truth five year olds in the public school system only need people that can share those things. Private school has the right to take another stance on the subject, that way it called private.

Opposition point people do not deserve bullying no matter their sin. God did not bully people but gave them a chance to repent. We want to talk about sin, better to talk to God about sin. David knew his sin and did repent and asked daily for God's mercy. David knew as nations' heard about God they to would want to know him, to glorify his name, to honor his word. King David knew God was a merciful and forgiving God and loved having his named glorifying. We often need God's ability to show mercy and forgiveness to others.

Dear Heavenly Father, forgive us our trespasses, and we demonstration your love and mercy for others the same way you have for us, so your name can be glorified. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: 2 Samuel 6:16-23 KJV
16 And as the ark of the LORD came into the city of David, Michal Saul's daughter looked through a window, and saw king David leaping and dancing before the LORD; and she despised him in her heart.
17 And they brought in the ark of the LORD, and set it in his place, in the midst of the tabernacle that David had pitched for it: and David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the LORD.
18 And as soon as David had made an end of offering burnt offerings and peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD of hosts.
19 And he dealt among all the people, even among the whole multitude of Israel, as well to the women as men, to every one a cake of bread, and a good piece of flesh, and a flagon of wine. So all the people departed every one to his house.
20 Then David returned to bless his household. And Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David, and said, How glorious was the king of Israel to day, who uncovered himself to day in the eyes of the handmaids of his servants, as one of the vain fellows shamelessly uncovereth himself!
21 And David said unto Michal, It was before the LORD, which chose me before thy father, and before all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the LORD, over Israel: therefore will I play before the LORD.
22 And I will yet be more vile than thus, and will be base in mine own sight: and of the maidservants which thou hast spoken of, of them shall I be had in honour.
23 Therefore Michal the daughter of Saul had no child unto the day of her death.
