Acknowledgement Of Sin 07/24/2022
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisGenesis 12:11-20 KJV
11 And it came to pass, when he was come near to enter into Egypt, that he said unto Sarai his wife, Behold now, I know that thou art a fair woman to look upon:
12 Therefore it shall come to pass, when the Egyptians shall see thee, that they shall say, This is his wife: and they will kill me, but they will save thee alive.
13 Say, I pray thee, thou art my sister: that it may be well with me for thy sake; and my soul shall live because of thee.
14 And it came to pass, that, when Abram was come into Egypt, the Egyptians beheld the woman that she was very fair.
15 The princes also of Pharaoh saw her, and commended her before Pharaoh: and the woman was taken into Pharaoh's house.
16 And he entreated Abram well for her sake: and he had sheep, and oxen, and he asses, and menservants, and maidservants, and she asses, and camels.
17 And the LORD plagued Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai Abram's wife.
18 And Pharaoh called Abram, and said, What is this that thou hast done unto me? why didst thou not tell me that she was thy wife?
19 Why saidst thou, She is my sister? so I might have taken her to me to wife: now therefore behold thy wife, take her, and go thy way.
20 And Pharaoh commanded his men concerning him: and they sent him away, and his wife, and all that he had.
I wrote yesterday about the world looking at our sin and imitating it only because they see our sin does not separate us from God with the blood of Christ is applied. Yet the world understand not about the application of the blood, or the covering God has for the believer and their sin. In this first story in the above passage we see in the land outside of Egypt a pharaoh who see Sarah and desires for her to be his wife. Yet Abraham tell him only Sarah is his half sister and not his wife. In today's world this relationship would be incest, so if we play by God's rules and man's rules, incest is a crime. Abraham cover by God but not man in our world today, but in the world as Abraham knew it, it was not a crime. At this point in Abraham's life he was learning to trust God and was head to the promise land. He was not ready to trust God to deliver him from a foreign ruler. This pharoah was not a man of faith, and God sent him and his kingdom plagues because of this potential marriage. Sarah, I can not image for a moment that Sarah was happy with this arrangement between her husband Abraham or the pharoah. Yet when pharoah had figured out it was because of Sarah that the plagues were from some god, he question Abraham about why he brought this plague or sin upon him. The king recognized Abraham's God, did not necessarily believe in Abraham's God but understood that Abraham's God had power to inflict him with different plagues for punishment. Even these plague effect his women fertility. For this the Pharoah cast them out of his land without findout about this God of Abraham, or hearing direct communication with God.
Now we have to go through many chapters to get to the second story similiar event and it post in below in the Continual scripture study section of this lesson. Yet this time the king is stopped by God who speaks to him, because he is a man of faith. First ruler God did not talk to him, only sent him plagues. That idea you did something wrong but for the life of you, you have no clue that sin you committed against someone so you go about your own business until either you can get it straighten out or the problem becomes enough that one just gets rid of the problem/person in their life. If you confront the problem it sometimes clears that air but not always, sometimes it escalates the problem a person has. However, the King confront Abraham for almost causing him to sin, for he had not slept with Sarah yet, because God prevented him and protected Sarah. His family and household was effect by a plague of not being able to bear children during this time and had to ask Abraham to pray for him to receive forgiveness. The need for intercessor. Yet God had talked directly to him. What this mean, God did not explain what the problem was to the king, only there was a problem, which allowed Abraham to be comfronted by the king.
Faith in God is crucial here for two rulers. The Pharoah outside of Egypt and the King who lived outside the promise land. Pharoah not seeking forgiveness, but just outcasting the problem. The King outside the promise land he sought repentance of this God that spoke to him about his sin, because he was a believer in God and was told Abraham was a prophet.
I believe the Pharaoh understood there was a God by the events he felt God was plaguing him with, but he understood not the need for repentance nor did he want to find out fully what the problem was beyond that he almost committed adultry. It was easier just to cast Abraham and Sarah out. The King however reconized God's voice, God correction and warning to him and his people. God warning came with knowledge who Abraham was. He was willing to listen to God, but the need of the intercessor to perform the sacrifice to God came by Abraham. Need of intercessor before the law or Christ came, because God was preparing his people for the intercessor he had chosen for his purpose to remove all sin from the world.
We are covered by the blood of Jesus who makes intercession for all our sin. The only way we might realize we sin is because of direct communication with the offender. Who did the Pharaoh sin against, one is clearly Abraham, but the second is God. Why because God was offended because it interfered with his will for Abraham and Sarah life. God had a purpose for Abraham's and Sarah life and so Sarah could not be a wife of another to carry the bloodline of the redeemer(Jesus). Two wrongs had to be corrected. The Pharoah did not care, he just wanted rid of these people that cause God to inflict disaster upon him, and the second pharaoh only wanted to make restitution for his sin against God and Abraham. He made restitution for sin. He obey God and confronted Abraham, concerning his sin against him.
God is not going to allow our sin to effect his plan or will for our life or the life's of others. He is not going to allow you to interfer with his will. Are we in the will of God in everything we do for him. Do we walk by his Spirit to not fulfill our flesh? Do we abide in God's warnings not to sin. I was put in position once where the Holy Spirit literally came between me and a person who would of sin against me. If God protects you who are you to deny it. If God's armor and shield is in place and God protects you in battle of faith, then you doing God's will for your life.
If we walk by God's Spirit our flesh will not win but God will. Abimelech heed God's warning. Pharaoh did not. Instead, the problem got removed from his family. He cast it out not caring who or what Abraham was. Sometimes one has to just remove the problem. Yet to resolve it and to make restitution is not always enough to reestablish a relationship with another person. To recognize the mistake first was Pharoah when he seen how Sarah talked to Abraham, but his sin was going to occur against God's will for Abraham and Sarah, and for that reason God said no. Will we heed God's nos or do we only heed our yes and our desires. Cain heed not God's warning and sin against God and his family by killing his brother and got cast out of the presence of God. Abraham and Sarah only got cast out of the Pharoah's land.
Does our anger rise against the wrong person. Abraham was only protected because Sarah was not just his wife but his half sister. He just did not tell the whole truth to protect his own life. Sarah became the ransome for Abraham in a land not known to them, and because of her, Abraham was allowed to settle or travel in the area of the king when the problem was resolved. God redeem the king, Abraham and Sarah. The protection came to all King, Abraham and Sarah because of their obedience to God. Who protects your soul, who protects your life? God through Christ Jesus made intercession, restitution and paid the ransom for the believers soul.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for sending Jesus to be our intercessor, restitution and pay for ransom for our soul. In Jesus precious name, Amen. Continual Scripture Study: Genesis 20:1-17 KJV
1 And Abraham journeyed from thence toward the south country, and dwelled between Kadesh and Shur, and sojourned in Gerar.
2 And Abraham said of Sarah his wife, She is my sister: and Abimelech king of Gerar sent, and took Sarah.
3 But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night, and said to him, Behold, thou art but a dead man, for the woman which thou hast taken; for she is a man's wife.
4 But Abimelech had not come near her: and he said, Lord, wilt thou slay also a righteous nation?
5 Said he not unto me, She is my sister? and she, even she herself said, He is my brother: in the integrity of my heart and innocency of my hands have I done this.
6 And God said unto him in a dream, Yea, I know that thou didst this in the integrity of thy heart; for I also withheld thee from sinning against me: therefore suffered I thee not to touch her.
7 Now therefore restore the man his wife; for he is a prophet, and he shall pray for thee, and thou shalt live: and if thou restore her not, know thou that thou shalt surely die, thou, and all that are thine.
8 Therefore Abimelech rose early in the morning, and called all his servants, and told all these things in their ears: and the men were sore afraid.
9 Then Abimelech called Abraham, and said unto him, What hast thou done unto us? and what have I offended thee, that thou hast brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? thou hast done deeds unto me that ought not to be done.
10 And Abimelech said unto Abraham, What sawest thou, that thou hast done this thing?
11 And Abraham said, Because I thought, Surely the fear of God is not in this place; and they will slay me for my wife's sake.
12 And yet indeed she is my sister; she is the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife.
13 And it came to pass, when God caused me to wander from my father's house, that I said unto her, This is thy kindness which thou shalt shew unto me; at every place whither we shall come, say of me, He is my brother.
14 And Abimelech took sheep, and oxen, and menservants, and womenservants, and gave them unto Abraham, and restored him Sarah his wife.
15 And Abimelech said, Behold, my land is before thee: dwell where it pleaseth thee.
16 And unto Sarah he said, Behold, I have given thy brother a thousand pieces of silver: behold, he is to thee a covering of the eyes, unto all that are with thee, and with all other: thus she was reproved.
17 So Abraham prayed unto God: and God healed Abimelech, and his wife, and his maidservants; and they bare children.
Romans 5:17-21 KJV
17 For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)
18 Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.
19 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.
20 Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:
21 That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.
