Loving God: Lesson 12 2/15/2022
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisMatthew 12:46-50 KJV
46 While he yet talked to the people, behold, his mother and his brethren stood without, desiring to speak with him.
47 Then one said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to speak with thee.
48 But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren?
49 And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren!
50 For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.
Ever sat in office waiting for it to be your turn and the person ahead of you is making small chat. I mean we all do it, but today your in a hurry to take care of business and be gone. Well the conversation of the business person and the other customer continues into all kinds of social discussions that you wonder if the line is ever going to move forward. Finally you approach the desk and say, "Excuse me, but I need to drop this off, don't let me keep you from your chat". I sure every business office has dealt with this issue, but often times it no big deal, but it is the time inconvince for the person inline. It like can I just interupt for a minute to take care of this issue, I really do not mind you talking for thirty minutes more or hour, I will not be here.
This is my point, Jesus' mother and brether stood desiring to speak to Jesus, and what is Jesus' response, who is my mother and my brethren/brother? Did his mother get upset. By now Mary is use to his manner of speaking, and so when he says my mother and brethren are all hear speaking about the crowd, he has a lesson he fixing to explain his response. Who is his mother and brother but those that do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, sister and mother.
Does God need a mother? Does Christ need a mother, the image of mother, care giver until grown, image of mother the one that will love until her death or yours. Mother a roll in the family that states caregiver, those who care for God's people. Those that love the people and care for them. The one that will walk in the will of God loving people as they are. I heard the other day someone confessing to removing labels off of can goods they delivered to blind people and I thought to myself I thank God I am not that blind yet. And all I could think is that person that removed lables cared nothing about those people that they took stuff to that can not take care of their own shopping. Thank God for manufacturers that care enough to imprint their labels on product cans and containers. We see the neglect and abuse of people in all society from age to the business owner. Where does it stop. The anger of the customer, I just as guilty, to the abuse of the customer of the business giving repetive response with no human compassion. Compassion can be short lived too.
Where does it begin and end. It begins when we realize the purpose and duty as a believer. It begins when we realize the love of Christ must come first even in difficult times. I think of our leaders, Christian or not, who often get up before a crowd in difficult times of both their own life and the area in which they called to represent. They required to hold to some degree theirselves in check as well as their emotional response to any questions. This is love at the breaking point of a crisis. For the blind person that can with missing label is forced to waste food, or learn to freeze can items. It does not seem right, but it is their crisis for the moment.
I am sure Jesus mother did not mind it, but at the same time it is his mother. Yet you see his attitude the same when he went to change water into wine. When his mother ask for help he said my time is not yet. Yet he still turns water into wine. The action of Jesus speaks clear when the task is done. How often does those we ask do not have time, often still do the task needed. Sometimes we only see or hear part of a conversation and the truth is it is deceiving. The whole story comes to light as picture unfolds of the story of dedication of team efforts in the business world. Those efforts of going the extra mile says you are dedicate to your work and good performance.
Jesus was explain who his team is, those that love and does the Father's will. Yet we know without faith in Christ, faith in God, there is no salvation. Salvation work is to love and to do the will of the Father. A requirement, remember even the devil does good works to deceive and remember even the devil has to obey God for he does not rule over God. God can stop the devil. Why he does not always, is because of Adam and Eve making the choice to follow the serpent. Our free will means the devil will attack, and tempt us, but he has no power over us as children of God. He was defeat at the cross and the minute we choose to obey God the Father and his word, that seed is planted. God greatest gift of love was sending his son to die in our place for our sin. Why is our love only the action of faith, because it can not save ourselves, our work can not save us, but God's work and saving grace always will, as people see Jesus in us.
It matters not how good a person you are, you can still find yourself without a job. I know this pandemic has woken many people up to this fact, that may of been known, but it is also definitely clear now that good paying job is not job security. Government is security, only Christ is. It nothing we desire it is a free gift supplied by God. We may boast of our accomplishments today, but the metals are worthiless by tomorrow. They give honor for a day and it all is gone with death. You can not take one trinket or metal with you, only be buried with it.
Jesus mother and siblings are those that follow God's will for their life, and carry their cross and follow in Christ pathway. Jesus claiming those who were listening as being his sheep. A special honor of knowing Jesus claiming your his sheep because of spiritual birth. Mary gave physical life to Christ, but Christ gave spiritual birth to even his mother as being first the word of God that then came in the flesh through birth. We to can believe first God's word and then in Christ who came in the flesh, because without faith in God there is no faith in Christ Jesus.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for giving us spiritual life upon faith in Christ Jesus. help us to do your will by the power of your Spirit. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
