Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisLuke 2:25-35 KJV
25 And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him.
26 And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord's Christ.
27 And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law,
28 Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said,
29 Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word:
30 For mine eyes have seen thy salvation,
31 Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people;
32 A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.
33 And Joseph and his mother marvelled at those things which were spoken of him.
34 And Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against;
35 (Yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also,) that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.
What is it you would like to see in your life time before you own death from this earth? If you say you want to see the coming of the Lord, you will see the coming of the Lord either after death or at his appearance. Simeon chance of seeing Jesus the Savior of the world was not necessarily his request of his but a promise of God to Simeon who was a faithful and devout man of faith in God. God does not make one promise he does not intend to keep to any of his faithful servants or to anyone he promised something that refuse to believe the promise given. Moses knew he would never enter the promise land but he would have the opportunity to look into Israel.
Abraham ask God about Sodom and Gomorrah and God promised him if 10 were his followers he would not destroy the city. Only four escaped that city and only three were obedient to God command not to look back, but even Abraham knew God's protection would be on Lot's life if he would believe God in his own life. The ability to trust God on things we can not control, to do what he will for fellow believers despite those around them. Simeon was a man of faith, communicated with God as Abraham, as Moses and so forth. God had promised he would see his salvation and he came by the Holy Spirit into the temple and pick up Baby Jesus from the arms of Mary and lifted him up and Praised God for showing him the salvation of Israel.
Simeon not only praised God, but prophesied to Mary concerning her own role in the life and ministry of her son that her own heart would be pierced. It would be with the beatening the soldiers gave him and the crucifixion of his death. Mary would be wounded til the resurrection of her son. Healing and joy would come with Christ victory over death. Simeon seen the joy and not the horror of events to unfold. He see the blessing God was bestowing without perhaps the full measure of understanding. Simeon had seen the promise of God before him, the promise that he would see this Messiah. A blessing a treasure that day, he could go in peace and die, if it was his time too. He had seen the hope of Israel and the world.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for the promises of the return of your Son, that salvation came through the cross for all that would believe in Jesus. Help us to trust and have a relationship like Simeon had with you, one that you communicate to us the hope of our salvation for eternity to our very soul even when we going through trials of our faith. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

13 These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.
