The Impossible Made Possible

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Luke 1:26-38 KJV
26 And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth,
27 To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary.
28 And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.
29 And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be.
30 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.
31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.
32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:
33 And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.
34 Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?
35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
36 And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren.
37 For with God nothing shall be impossible.
38 And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.

Mary virginity is never been a question of mine, but for some people that idea of Mary being a virgin is hard for them to believe. After all women even in Mary's day did sleep with their bethrothe. Laws of the land they live in where not strict as far as sexual practices. Yet religious reason Mary would of still been a virgin. She would of waited til marriage. In our world today, the idea of teen pregnancy, sex before marriage and traditions of culture often play a big role in a women choice to wait or not to wait. The social culture of men, some would say men are driven to sexual immorality, to the point the idea of wait is not in their genes. Yet in reality men are just as responsible or should be held to the responsibility of sexual immorality that pregnancy of unmarried and married women they sleep with, despite the fact it not happening to a man's body beyond the first temptation of the act of desire. Mary was consider to be a young women in her teens, maybe just becoming a women, and never even had a kiss. Yet she was bethrothe, being given in marriage and yet it was not consumated, and not yet ceremonial married either. She still lived with her family. When the angel came and told her she would become pregnant she wanted to know how this could be because she knew no man. In other words she was sexually pure. I have to wonder at not only her innocents at the moment but her thought process is why is she sharing this with that angel of God about her purity.

Another question is did the words fear not really cause her less to be afraid talking to an angel and how she know he was not just man desiring her body? If I want to play the devil for a moment I can, in regards to Mary's naive behavior with the angel. Yet two things we must either accept in this story is Mary's virginity and the angel was truly a spiritual being before her very eyes whose name is Gabriel the same angel that spoke to Zachariah and even Daniel. To have faith in God and to believe his angels by God's instruction can come forth in our world and do the bidding of God, we must realize these messengers of God are more then the type of minister called angel in the Hebrew and Greek. Angel can mean minister, in this case the angel is a minister but also an angelic being not of human flesh. Appearance of a man. He approaches her and tells her she is highly favored by God. If I stop there, I wonder why Mary even responded back?

Scripture leads to a bunch of unanswer questions and yet the main question is what did that angel say to her, that she was willing to allow God's word to be preformed unto her. My conclusion we are not Mary, never seen angel and we would have to accept this event as being spiritually sought after in regards of when it occurred, Mary was intrigued by the words favored by God. "She was told she would conceive, bare a son and shall call his name Jesus. This Jesus would be a king as his ancestor King David and would rule had no end. The words of the angel causing more questions, she asked how can this be I know not a man. Angel told her the Holy Spirit would hover over her and the power of God would over shadow her and she would conceive. In other words God's presents would come upon her. God would not sleep with her but the word of God would create this life within her. Angel told her Elizabeth her cousin was pregnant, and with God nothing is impossible. Mary received the words of the angel as truth and said let it be has you have spoken it.

Nothing is impossible for God! Do you believe that? Like I said I can play devil advocate with question, even down to did government official deflower Mary and because of this act she was still consider a virgin by her people. I watched Brave Heart movie to many times. However with this type of questioning comes was Mary a virgin, we must believe she was until the day she consumated her marriage with Joseph. We must define all things are possible by God in order to receive the virgin birth as being true. To be of God and by the word of God. If I wanted to look at the physics of the world and define creation only by science we probably can to the point of where did the elements come from even if they can be broken down to one source, that source still had to come from somewhere. God himself is said to have always existed, but most believe God had an origin in a sense of not always being and if that the case he would not be called the Alpha and Omega the first and the last. Our concept of begin is finite to man, God's concept of begining is infinite in thought. We our own mind can not rationalize infinite in a sense beyond a number line going in to different direction without end. Beyond our thinking we can not even begin to understand infinitely time frame because there is no frame of time for God. We want a picture that does not exist or can be understood. Even Moses wanted to see God's face and God would only show his backside. How does one believe in impossibility being able to be possible? Understanding God is not defined by how he created the world to run like engine in a car. He has no boundaries or guidelines to follow as man does. Meaning man wants to make a surprise happen, he might go to extremes to do, and yet it can be messed up by one person making a mistake in man's plan to make the surprise imperfect.

You and I work off of lines drawn by economics, science, and probability of something happening, not the reality of God's power to do the impossible and make things possible before the human eyes. The taxes decreed by Roman seems almost a human factor in time that could of been rigged, but was not, to get the Jews home for at least the first Christmas. Yet we define unchangeable events in time as events not often controlled by God, but this one event God knew who would be in power and if it was even possible for a foreign king to make such a decree never considering the economic embalance for a time frame.

When believers of the Bible declare the virgin birth as being real, we take it as scripture declared it without rape, incest, or rule of Rome taking a virgin daughter to be wedded and deflowering her before her wedding. If one accept in the probability liability that with God all things are possible, then God ability to protect a maiden until child is born, and to protect a maiden being protect even under scrutiny of religious law that the child she carried was of the Holy Spirit becomes possible. Not a conception by normal conception lines drawn by God himself for man to be able to be conceived inside a woman. These lines are for man to understand what laws God established conception of man to be, not by test tube of science but the law of physics he designed. This baby conceived was not conceived by the physics of God design for man, but the physics of design that God is governed by in accordance to his decree/word.

Whatever God speaks is possible if we box God in by his word, yet his word has even mercy within it that delays his word in coming or being, or being fulfilled at the present of time it is spoken. If we can grasp the manifestation of God's word coming to pass without boundaries defined by man's ability, we see not only God's ability but believe all things are possible for God and he is not defined by the word impossible but possible. Faith has no impossibilities if God's will and word has spoken it or declared it by his Spirit and word. Mary was a virgin and conceived the son of God by the word of God. Created being not by clay but the declaration of God's word outside manifested inside the womb of Mary.

Accepting God for his power and his ability beyond human conciousness, it part of faith. It not faith in man to return with rescue help in an accident, it is the knowledge by inhuman ability man is going to survive by God's supernatural ability because help arrived on time. When help does not arrive on time, did man obey God's Spirit. We do not have all the reason why bad things occur, but man failing to obey God's Spirit and bad things happen is not God's fault. God altering man's course is an act of God not act of man. Man failings teaching man also about God's mercy when man failed to obey God's Spirit. Inclusion the virginity and purity of Mary was still in tacked because God's word declare it and nothing is impossible for God. Perimeters of man's science undestanding has a frame, God's word has no frame of impossibility. Mary's virgingity because she was chosen and favored by God states her spiritual state at that time.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for being God of impossibility being made possible by your decree and your decree and actions alone. I accept your word as truth not defined by framework you established for man to be in submission too. Help us to grow in faith that you are a God who establishes possibility in your people and in the world we live in. In Jesus precious name, Amen
