The Prophecy Concerning The Baby 12/07/2022
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisIsaiah 9:1-16 KJV
1 Nevertheless the dimness shall not be such as was in her vexation, when at the first he lightly afflicted the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, and afterward did more grievously afflict her by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, in Galilee of the nations.
2 The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.
3 Thou hast multiplied the nation, and not increased the joy: they joy before thee according to the joy in harvest, and as men rejoice when they divide the spoil.
4 For thou hast broken the yoke of his burden, and the staff of his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, as in the day of Midian.
5 For every battle of the warrior is with confused noise, and garments rolled in blood; but this shall be with burning and fuel of fire.
6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.
8 The Lord sent a word into Jacob, and it hath lighted upon Israel.
9 And all the people shall know, even Ephraim and the inhabitant of Samaria, that say in the pride and stoutness of heart,
10 The bricks are fallen down, but we will build with hewn stones: the sycomores are cut down, but we will change them into cedars.
11 Therefore the LORD shall set up the adversaries of Rezin against him, and join his enemies together;
12 The Syrians before, and the Philistines behind; and they shall devour Israel with open mouth. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.
13 For the people turneth not unto him that smiteth them, neither do they seek the LORD of hosts.
14 Therefore the LORD will cut off from Israel head and tail, branch and rush, in one day.
15 The ancient and honourable, he is the head; and the prophet that teacheth lies, he is the tail.
16 For the leaders of this people cause them to err; and they that are led of them are destroyed.
Most of us are familiar with verse 6 and 7 of this passage. It is often used in the Christmas story in many churches. Given as a reminder of the prophecy and proclamation of the Messiah coming. Yet it really a prophetic to over 70 years before Israel would come out of exile, when they went into exile. This was message given to produce hope even in the time of destruction. Yet it given to proclaim who Christ was in our Christmas pagans never refering to it as a proclamation before destruction. It is a symbol of hope and knowledge of who this Messiah ought to be. He would be called Wonderful, Counselor, The Mighty God, The everlasting Father and The Prince of Peace. Christ role on earth titles displayed. This one verse has not happened in the days of Isaiah. By the time Mary and Joseph come along and Mary has her first born and wraps in swaddling clothes, baby Jesus the Messiah is then laying in the manger and is known as the Prince of Peace, Emmanuel, The Everlasting Father, The Mighty God, Counselor and Wonderful. Let us not leave out the given name he be called by his name would be Jesus. Not every name was evident here in this passage, but it expressed who the Messiah is and would be. Prince of Peace, meaning the son of the Father offering peace to the world through the birth of his Son Jesus. Everlasting Father, because he is Lord of Lords, He is complete in the God headbodily, so Mighty God was also attribute to him. Wonderful and Counselor, because of who he was and is as he walked the earth and reigns from heaven. Verse 7 proclaims his godly titles. Yet he part of God and part of woman. The gods and goddess of Rome were said to be half man and God. Yet as believers in Christ, God word also declares Christ to be the only begotten Son in John 3. There are only one begotten of the Father, conceived through his word into the womb of a virgin by the hovering of his Spirit over Mary.
This prophesy was to bring hope, and yet no doubt they understood not who Christ was and is. He would be a son of David whose throne had no end, meaning Christ kingship and lordship had no end. David throne ceased but the bloodline carried the title of the throne and Christ would have a throne with no end. This is where not understanding the spiritual part of the Messiah, man would not understand Christ kingship was in the heart and not a physical Kingship despite his coronation in the Triumphal entry before his death and resurrection.
These passages of scripture are so important to our knowledge but when they were given is even more remarkable to the human understanding of the coming Messiah. I can not imagine a remnant of people that heard those words without their heart rejoicing but at the same time fear growing in their heart of what was about to take place. God with man even in the time of destruction, to the time of peace and hope bring forth the Savior or the world. God's word speaking volumns even with the knowledge Israel head and tail(government and religious power) was fixing to be destroyed. Two authoriies established under one ruler Christ who came to rule the heart and mind of all that would receive him as Lord and Savior.
Until the time of the Savior the religious leaders and kings were cut off and prophets were proclaiming the coming, The prophets were teachers and leaders but not necessarily in the religious order like the Priesthood. They tend to wander around some and speak the prophetic word of faith even to the heathens. Ezra and Nehemiah both prophets at the time of the return would read the law of God and the people would repent. A restablishment of the piesthood through no doubt the family line would occur at some point with the rebuilding of the temple and the following of the Old Testament laws. When Christ coming he would be God's chosen Messenger for eternity.
Dear Heavenly Father thank you for the coming of the Messiah, the prophetic word of the Messiah expanding more then 70 years and yet your word coming to this generation and generation passed that would receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Thank you for sharing your prophetic message with our hearts Lord, that we would believe even when no leader believed. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
