What Will You Do Til Christ Returns 08/30/2022
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisMatthew 24:1-51 KJV
1 And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings of the temple.
2 And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.
3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?
4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.
6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.
8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.
9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake.
10 And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.
11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.
13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.
15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)
16 Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains:
17 Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house:
18 Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes.
19 And woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days!
20 But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day:
21 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.
22 And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened.
23 Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not.
24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.
25 Behold, I have told you before.
26 Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not.
27 For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
28 For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together.
29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:
30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
32 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh:
33 So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.
34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.
35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.
36 But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.
37 But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,
39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
40 Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
41 Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.
43 But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up.
44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.
45 Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season?
46 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.
47 Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods.
48 But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming;
49 And shall begin to smite his fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken;
50 The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of,
51 And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
This is a long chapter read but one worth reading. Many want to know when Christ will return. In someways he continues to return in other ways he has yet to return in the flesh. What I mean is God's word remains until all things are destroyed by God. His word comes back, seeming to die out and yet it still there in the world. Be hard to go a day without God's word, for it manifest in every crop that grows, every river that springs forth through just natural course of nature. Yet the Son of Man in incorruptible flesh will return. Christ will come from heaven with a shout of an angel. his appearance will cause the earth to mourn, for the hours of final destruction is coming.
What is changing in our world. I wake up use to turn on the news, and now I do not. I figure I can wait til five to know if the world is still standing if it is not plaster on facebook or not happening at my backdoor. Yet I realize the world as has faced so many disaster in the last decade, almost hard to rationalize the destruction of so many places around the world, and yet the next day rebuilding, searching and demolishing begins, as if it just a part of our community action to repair itself.
To face a storm knowing to look back or go after something you left behind is a mistake because the storm or hour of destruction you might have escaped has now entrapped you. Worse then when Lot's wife look back and turned into a pillar of salt, you now trapped in the destructive force with perhaps taking others that care for you and their own safety. There are people that will try and rescue you even if they know they perhaps can not. How many fire fighters went to twin towers knowing before it fell that was not the place to be at the moment, the world will never know, for some lost there life that day trying to save as many as they could.
One morning I sat outside my house, we tore down, looking at the rubble. Realize we tore it down by choice to rebuild. It left a sense of insecurity that day that I had not known in maybe years. My family and my husband family were embarking on a building project not all of us had done before. Yet the tearing of the house leaving the insecurity, that place of not knowing if the house would be built, weight heavy on my mind. Everyone else was excited about the adventure, never thinking about insecurity my husband and I felt at the moment. People are able to visit destruction but they most of the time are not returning to their own destruction at home.
There is point we often feel secure by our buildings we are in. In places we can go to escape, but do we feel secure no matter what we face we have security in our eternity. Our security in our world we live in is fleeting. It only last as long as a good job, as long as our government holds, as long as we do not grow old, avoid a catastophy, get on the other side of the storm, and not least learn not to head in to trouble. How many old people despite the fact that hips can be repair are wondering why they walked on the ice that morning, to face a fall. Was that newspaper that important. No it was just something done everyday before the fall. What about accidents, things just happen, at no fault of a person. Yet it happens. Escape to the roof, how fast is that water rising. Feel the earth tremble only to face a bigger shockwave a few minutes later. We can not even count on ourselves, our health fail, we get sick in the pandemic and live to tell it, but our bodies take time to gain strength. What happens do we all fall.
At twenty you might think you invisible, by thirty you know your not, if you lucky it might be forty. Did Christ forecast anything that is not already known in regards to the future events before his second coming. The answer is not really, yet Christ says his coming is soon. How do we know how soon. It best we do not know all the details, for if we did, who would repent until the hour of his return. Who would testify of his return? Who would have wait all these years. Sometimes the less we know the better off we are. No because when we see the signs that Christ speaks of coming, we know he still coming, even if we know not when exactly. In fact no one knows the hour but the Father meaning God the creator of all things.
If no one knows the exact time, all we can do is watch the eastern sky. No, we got a job God gave us through his Son to testify of him, pray for others, and to walk in Christ footsteps tell Christ coming. Our obedience to God til Christ comes. Our obedience will continue even after the coming of Christ in the sense of following him into eternity by faith, that is our security in the end. Our security in Christ, while on this earth needs to be our security through eternity. Sometimes God in his wisdom protects our homes, are area and so forth from extreme disaster. Other times God removes it.
I lived in a tarpaper house for 9 years of my married life and midway through living in that house my husband and I almost lost it. That would be the house we eventually would tear down. The chimney caught fire. we had just fixed our roof, and had twenty fire men on top of it, and it stood. To learn a few years later there was nothing really to hold the roof up, much less the wall, only speaks of the miracle and God's grace. My security in a dump of a house, what was I thinking. We also learned there was no security in our earthly bodies, they two would break down. Our bodies must be maintained but they will not last in our world but only til it time for us to go into our spiritual home.
You break leg, can't see, find yourself in a wheelchair and head for a nursing home, only to be taken to the morgue. We all face many similiar things, if not the exact type of thing in life. We trust in Christ return, without knowledge of when, but we know the signs of when his soon return will be. Each time disaster fall, what comes a new beginning. Yet for the lost a new begining is not given. And the church that Christ comes to claim is their garments white as snow. Is our lamp light burning and lit, with the power of the Holy Spirit?
God wants us to be like busy little bees, gathering pollen for honey, and passing out love in the sense of caring for one another tell Christ comes. Where are you, are reading this long chapter wonder where am I going with it. I can not change the words of Christ prophesy or words he spoke to suit you. To give you security that you grasp with human hands, I can not. I can share with you the security you need for eternity through faith in Christ, to know when destruction comes, he is still there. To know when illness comes, he is still there. He is going to provide the hope you need for the journey, if you let him.
Dear Heaveny Father, help us to remember your words of the things that await us in our time on earth, that will come, both to the believers and unbelievers. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
Continual Scripture Study: Luke 12:22-32 KJV
22 And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on.
23 The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment.
24 Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them: how much more are ye better than the fowls?
25 And which of you with taking thought can add to his stature one cubit?
26 If ye then be not able to do that thing which is least, why take ye thought for the rest?
27 Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
28 If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and to morrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith?
29 And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind.
30 For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things.
31 But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.
32 Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.
