Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Acts 9:36-43 KJV
36 Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which by interpretation is called Dorcas: this woman was full of good works and almsdeeds which she did.
37 And it came to pass in those days, that she was sick, and died: whom when they had washed, they laid her in an upper chamber.
38 And forasmuch as Lydda was nigh to Joppa, and the disciples had heard that Peter was there, they sent unto him two men, desiring him that he would not delay to come to them.
39 Then Peter arose and went with them. When he was come, they brought him into the upper chamber: and all the widows stood by him weeping, and shewing the coats and garments which Dorcas made, while she was with them.
40 But Peter put them all forth, and kneeled down, and prayed; and turning him to the body said, Tabitha, arise. And she opened her eyes: and when she saw Peter, she sat up.
41 And he gave her his hand, and lifted her up, and when he had called the saints and widows, presented her alive.
42 And it was known throughout all Joppa; and many believed in the Lord.
43 And it came to pass, that he tarried many days in Joppa with one Simon a tanner.

Woven material is found as early as Genesis and Exodus 28 in scripture. Yet woven material and hide tanned from fur still would of been used for certain things even in the days of Paul. Dorcas was a coat and garment maker. Last verse speaks of a tanner name Simon of Joppa, who housed Peter for many days. Paul in Acts 16 meat a woman who sold purple cloth. The first fur coat was made by God. No recorded of when the first woven material was made, but Jacob had made for Joseph a coat of many colors, and this could of been hide tanned and dyed, this story is found in Genesis 37. There is a time period after the flood where either these trades were restore, or created beyond the first time period of the first fur coat. No doubt in the early years after creation one of the first means of trade would of been for fur, to those with talent to tan and sew it together to make clothing, and then weaving of fabric from grass, wool fiber, hair of other creatures and so forth would have developed. The knowledged by the first coat made for Adam and Eve by God. We have no clue how long it took. Yet they became a barter item, and a trade for other goods or services. These items still be essential today. There are many people working to produce fabric items for clothing in our world, and yet it often taken for granted.

Dorcas trade of sewing was about hard work, but what would be consider probably light work in her world. She became ill and died, and the village needed her, but she was gone. Peter was in town and came and prayed and spoke words for her to rise up. She open her eyes and immediately got up and Peter presented her back alive to the people. No doubt this was an experience never forgotten because it in scripture even today for the retelling of the event. Is healing not worth telling about, how about the bringing back to life.

Is the stories of old important. I think of how many children are spoiled to day with little knowledge of the process of making clothes or even caring about it. Cooking is much different because we all still have to eat, but the ability to trade for cloth, creating is a dying art in the homes across America, but not in the clothing factories or retail business. Let's not leave out the cotton fields and other dry material woven into fabric. All the textile industries.

Sometimes resurrections are seen much as a myth today, but people do die and live again often through medical means of CPR. Now seldom do you hear God raised someone up as in the days of the disciples and Paul, yet occasionally there are stories even still today. I have heard a few. Never witness one. The point being if we tell not scripture, tell not of the rising of the dead, how can the next generation believe. God's miracles need to be told, need to be highlighted in the world, so the knowledge of God is seen to not just those that believe but to the unbeliever, whether they believe or not. What do miracles do breath hope hopefully. Hopefully at some point the real miracle comes forth in daily survival in our worse times. Do we rise up to fight again in our crazy mixed up world we live in. Or do we hunker down and wait for the timer to declare we are no longer alive. If our strive is to live each day to the best of our ability, then most would say we achieved a good day, no matter our situation. We are living the best life possible for us.

How can live the best life appreciating it, if we understand not where the things we purchase, that are taken for granted, come from. Ever seen glass blown, a salt mine, a volcano, field with sheeps and cows, what about a wheat field, or a corn field. One beautiful lake, stream, or ocean with tons of fish swimming merrily. The chickens and other fowl like geese to make a feather bed. Cotton fields of the south to take to factories to sew garments we wear. We think little how these things are made, we buy and disgard with no knowledge of the price of time it took to make. God in his wisdom been creating and continues to create beauty around us with little though how did God do that. Science field is like that simple until they get to the base elements of things created and say it has to come from God. All these workers that make these things we know not, fully how it done, create and ship off to another department to finish it off.

Some of the oldest careers in the world began with God making it first. God power to resurrect came before man's power to do so. Science had to wonder how can it happen, and though resurrection happen without CPR, Science figured it out, how to get air into the lungs and heart pumping again. God already knew how to do that.

Dear Heavenly Father, you made the first coat, and the first garment for man, to cover his nakedness. Then you also gave man forgiveness the second covering, that would change us with the knowledge of your love in Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Genesis 3:21 KJV

Acts 16:14-15 KJV
14 And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, which worshipped God, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul.
15 And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there. And she constrained us.
