The Need Of A Lawyer
08/17/2022

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Matthew 22:35-40 KJV
35 Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying,
36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38 This is the first and great commandment.
39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

Luke 10:25-29 KJV
25 And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?
26 He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou? 27 And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.
28 And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live.
29 But he, willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour?

Job seen a need in his life because of the wickedness that surround him, He seen a need for a man to plead his case before God. We all probably feel that need from time to time, when we feel like the world is causing our problems, and truly is. Our reaction not of faith but of humanity. Our reaction not of God. Our repentance real, but our attitude is in need of help. Our response is not of God and our righteousness is only by faith alone, and works before God and our friends seem less righteous, and yet in reality we are humbled by God's power in our life. Our need for intercessor came long before Christ came in the the flesh. His mercy shown to us by his word as he spoke it and man repented to avoided God's wrath and yet God's wrath still poured out on the unrepented. The Bible talks about gnashing of teeth on the day of Christ return, but there no repentance for these folks. They plead not and their no deliverance instead only anger and cursing can be heard. They will have the biggest lawyer before them the advocator name Jesus, who is going to be speaking for his people once and for all in their life to those that are evil and fixing to face eternal judgment. Love being the greatest of the commandments, but at the same time Jesus is the great intercessor sent to intercede for man, the lawyer needed not the intercessor it seems because he knew the law, but he wanted to know his neighbor, the Samaritan was an outcast of Israel who knew his neighbor in the story of the good Samaritan, even when religious leaders care not for the man in the ditch. Why because the righteous, felt to righteous to touch the unclean. Study Luke chapter 10 for more details not posted. The truth sets the lawyer free because he told to do likewise, as the Samaritan the man unclean because of his ethnicity. Christ never taught bigotry or hate, but he spoke truth to what was right concerning love.

God loves all people that come to him in christian chariety of the law of love/compassion for others, that same compassion when we are in need or are struggling. Compassion should not be just when a need arises, but when ever we walk the streets and pass by our neighbors. What is our greeting to those we know. What about those strangers you only pass by on a regular bases, do you at least give a head nod of acknowledgement they exist. The mask era, only driven most of southwest Virginia mad with learning newer ways to communicate a greeting with especially social distancing, I think not. Mask soon appeared with smiley faces and expression of smiles and nods continued in our world we live in. The frustration of not giving our own smile despitated with each nod and wave or thumbs up. The need to greet to express hello even to those we know not, is necessary. Has long as they have no gun, no weapons of war, and are friendly they fit right in. I am sure to all states that did adhere to a mask mandidates this was the case. Only sign I seen was in West Virginia that during the heighth of the pandemic told everyone to stay away.

I smile at this, but in reality do we have a do not touch policy to the point if someone is need of help standing we will not help them off the floor? If you got a bad back that a sure thing you can not lift, but those that are able can at least get help for the fallen person. It the people that wants to knock a person continually down I have to wonder about. There is no love in it. Those that warn, give aid, help, wait and see what will happen sometimes best, unless life threatening. It is that person that only learn to demonstrate true love that learns to be selfless in their action. Demonstrating of love by just sharing a candy bar, when you want to eat the whole thing. Sounds silly, not really, it giving up of something simple at an early age when those items are not so easily accessed to be promised to have another tomorrow, that learning to not be selfish and give love by sharing begins. It giving and knowing you get one the following day to replace what you gave away means little beyond you have the means to do, and it is not cherished possession. It is that sacrificial love when no one else cares one another and their need.

The prophet and the laws were intercessors for the people. When Christ came he became the law and the intercessor of faith. He rose to greatness before the priesthood who could not stand it, because they understood not, that the time of exile would come to their people once more. The need for a new priesthood that would care for the world, for the dying, for the helpless, for those rich and those that were poor. To care beyond ethnicity, and care beyond the robes of righteousness to lend a helping hand. God in his wisdom taught through scripture to the learned that understood his word of compassion to all people. Evil would not reign forever. That evil would rise but it would fall, because the truth about evil would be proven in time, and it can not stand.

We know the evil in the world must rise for righteousness to overthrow it. It is a truly sad state of affairs. Love will win no matter what. That need for Jesus to intercede before God must begin not only with knowledge of our need of him, but our need for repentance. There are times we need to repent, and our mindset just is not in the focus of the need of repentanc. It okay, God knows and I believe in my heart, it not that we justify our actions, we are willing to recognize our own fault in the situation, but at the same time when falling to one's knees it takes God's hand to remind us of our humanity, or human shallowness in some situations, that we do repent in our hearts, while mentality still smiling, knowing the tears will one day come. Our mind and our heart will be intuned to what action of our sin causes.

Job could not find in his head anything he did wrong, but he was repent of it once corrected if God just remove this evil and tell him. Job finding that need for that lawyer was part of the problem for God's word was already before him. What then if we have God's word but heed not, and yet are righteous by faith, and yet we feel the world is condemning and beating us up, are we any less righteous, ask Jesus that question and Job. God restore first Christ to his heavenly home and then his earthly home. Job was restored first to the things of the world he understood, his wealth, and then because of righteousness he see heaven. Jesus was restored first to heaven and then to earth, and returned home after telling his disciples all his Father would do for them as well if they run the race of faith. To love as the law and prophets declared, to believe in God's only Son because of God's love for man. God loved man he sent his Son(His word in the flesh) to redeem man, to have that lawyer of faith, that intercede when we failed even God. When we obeyed God and the world around us would not hear the obedience to God only desiring the opposite to God's will, wanting their own will. Because it is our starting place in life from the minute we are born we cry for milk because of our desire, for food, for someone to help us out of a poopy diaper. How many poopy diapers has God taken you out of lately.

That need for God's word to pentrate our hearts. Jeremiah in the sewer found himself in a stinky mess, but rescued by the enemy by the will of God, to take him into captivity in peace and safety. Let us praise God that the lawyer of faith rises in our heart and soul today, knowing God may allow us to wallow in sin, to give us a hand up to safety by even our enemies.

The key occupation is lawyer today. The lawyer in the story of Luke and Matthew with questions for Jesus, and yet he knew the answers. Jesus used it to teach a more powerful lesson in Luke. We need earthly lawyers to help with the laws and we need Jesus to help with God's laws of love and the one law written on our heart called love by His Spirit.

Dear Heavenly Father, give us the grace to teach us to love and when we fail that the lawyer Christ will intercede and teach us how to love. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
