Road To, Through And Beyond The Cross: Lesson 28 4/28/2022
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisIsaiah 53:1-12 KJV
1 Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed?
2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.
3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.
8 He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.
9 And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.
10 Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.
11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.
12 Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.
Injustice is often seen in our world as justice because of reasons unknown to majority, only to the criminal lawyer, or the lawyer of justice. The fine of a just cause verse unjust one seems to weigh in our court systems since the day of their design. If a man can be proven just in his decision either no sentence or lighter sentence for the accused might be given. The word play is often key. Most of us have no problem with being able to see the metaphor in Isaiah in relation to Christ. Yet we get to verse 9 and say Christ did no violence, We must stop there and ask what, the turning of the money changers was not violent. If we look up the word violent in Hebrew dictionary it is the word châmâç, khaw-mawce'- a word dealing with just action verse unjust action. Action meaning violence.
Christ came off the hill from Bethany into Jerusalem riding in an donkey and colt, significant ride because of palm branches and singing of Hosanna to the King. Yet it is noted to that when he came down the hill and went into to the temple, aviolent act errupted in the turning of the money changers in the temple porch. The money changers were in violation of religious law of making God's house a den of thieves. To understand God's holiness, we must understand that even his vessel, his house and his place of worship were consider sacred. There were places only the heathen and gentiles were allowed, and places only those who been purified through cleansing rituals, prayer and fasting were allow to go into. Even women on their menustral cycles were kept out of certain areas of the temple. Anything be dispelled from the body being unclean or purging of bodily fluids, if that helps in unholiness, or unclean image. When the money changers were selling sacrifices and other trinkets in the temple porch it was unlawful. Some of the animals maybe not even purified, or cleansed for slaughter/sacrifice. When violence errupted it was consider a just cause, for even the Chief Priest son name Barabbas land up killing a man that was trying to get into the inner temple where he would not of been permitted. Barabbas part of the insurrection. Barabbas, who murder by accident, or on purpose, no one knows, but it happened. Jesus as king, as instigator, incharge so to speak of what happened in the eyes of any true believer would of said just cause, because he was Lord, but instead the crowd that followed himinto the temple condemned Christ to face death for trying to exalt authority in the Temple of who he is as King of Kings and Lord of all. He was not yet recognized as Sovereign, much like nations ability to prove their worthiness to be independent nation, it must be proven that a nation can defend their nationalism. Yet it also means a nation must beef itself up to be able to be a great world leader. Thirty-three years, Christ had proven to be a good teacher/preacher/minister and prophet. Only tell the feeding of the five thousand and four thousand was he seen as maybe a king, or a great leader. Not enough evidence of his power for some. Of course we must remember how many followed Jesus day by day beside the disciples, even they left to spend time with their families. There times they were missing from the group, whether in ministry or else where.
Only the followers of Christ would see this violence as a just cause and for unbelieve they perhaps wonder of the fact the Messiah was to do no violence by our definition in our human world today meaning an act that is not only evil but wrong no matter where it was. Yet the word violence in Hebrew is just cause. When the story unraveled it leaves a question who should be believed in regards of actions of a king. To deny Christ kingship was to begin the crucifixion by both Rome and Jews. Yet did Christ exalt himself or did people exalt him. Is act of humility of riding not horse but a donkey and her colt seem almost as if Christ humbleness is not an act of war though it became an act of war. An act of war of impurity being on the temple property. Why had not the priesthood stood up to this problem because High Priest Caiaphas was playing into the hands of Rome, who desire no violence, no contraverse with the government during his reign. He loved power, money and comfort of peace, and yet with one act the world was turned upside down and Christ went to the cross for even the religious leaders that were enjoying their time of comfort within Roman laws of their rights to practice their faith without strife. Yet Rome would destroy them and burn the temple down in a few more decades.
I am fifty-three and been a spectator of life to watch the way the world has changed in those fifty years. Somethings are easier to believe then others that happened in our own world. Yet we look back to the time of Christ and by our own laws Christ would of been crucified or it would of been swept under the rug so to speak because of his actions. Why? The idea of separation of church and state. Anyone can believe what they want too. However government and business world can not stop faith from being carry into places that does not want it to be carried. That is like telling a believer he has to take Christ out of his heart to enter a workplace, a business, a government establishment and so forth. Do not think that does not applied to other religions with the same mentality of Christians that their faith is in their heart and mind. Where can one go in the world without God, no place. Where can a believer not carry Christ with them, can they remove him, the answer is no. The very word of God once enter your brain cells can not be removed without inner parts being removed. Why are brain functions so much like a computer with a few loose wires? Man mimickry of God's power to design and yet even the design of man is found with error. Thank God it is.
What the world of law as decided basically is separation of church and state. Caiaphas no doubt knew the Roman law would release his son, but one man would still need to die for the nation, because of this sin of the man that had died. They choose a man that was blameless, that would be a sheep, that would lay his life down for his fellowman, but that not how it occurs in scripture. Instead we see Christ laying his life down, no one even speaking up, but allowing his role as king to take him to the cross. All by the will of God. God allowing his people to suffer, allowed his Son to suffer for you and me, of faith, of unfaith, and for all that would come after his resurrection has well. Christ would be lead like a sheep to the slaughter, or to the sacrifice. Yet God had one power man can not duplicate though they try too. Yet man can not remove a person from their tomb and make them live in incorruptible body and come back and forth from heaven to earth.
Sacrifice being a person of ill reput, or evil, being destroyed outside the city gate. Consider trash for the dung heap. Jesus crucified outside the gate, and he was laid in a borrow tomb. Apparently they gave the tomb back to Joseph of Armithaea after the resurrection, though scripture does not declare that. The outcast of society are often crucified. An soon as a man or woman to to trial he often black balled. He was marked as a potential trouble maker even if innocent. Has our society changed in how they regard criminal, a person charged or a person labeled as being evil. Jesus never sugar coated who he was. Jesus came being announced to the world by God, even to the heathens. The devil will do everything to win human favor only to destroy the innocent once again. All those good deeds a devil does, he does it to gain something back. Where as a believer in Christ our good deeds have value only as being part of the family, being a good neighbor and so forth like that. It not for rank, for we are the same in Christ, we all equals in Christ, however we are not equal to Christ. Meaning as a believer our work is part of being part of the team, or army of God. Devil only wanting something in return by the deeds he does that are not evil or evil intent.
What then are we living in a corrupt society the answer is yes. Was Jesus just in the reason he went to the cross. Did he die for a just cause. The answer is going to be yes by believers on the grounds he defended God in the house of God, the Temple of Jerusalem. This was not a synagogue this was the main Temple he was protecting. Then he died protecting the Priesthood. Only to rise again to protect the his followers. All because God the Father harden the hearts for him to be crucified.
What then, if justified violent act, then he did no evil intent through out his life. The verse in Isaiah 53 says this "And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth." The word no violence. Meaning he done nothing that was not a just cause, though the act itself was violent. Looking up words and define from today's language and the language of the Hebrew people are necessary to keep from confusion. Let us remember Christ was not violent without a reason.
I wanting to explore the reason of war in the Old Testament for a little bit for the purpose to understand why God allows man to be defeat and also victors. How it plays out his glorification in battle. Why God's judgment is not one to kill the innocent, but to save the humble. I do not know if this will be May subject, or later in May. Or assignment to you. We will see. I am taking tomorrow off. Reminder Former Secretary of State Madeline Albright passed. Something to note she served our country in the seventies and eighties. Meaning several things, a woman in leadership in our country. I sure she was in political world longer then that. But the point is, we often look at women not in power, or in position to be president was not a reality that far back but it was. Let straighten out this problem our nation has that women have no political power, but they do and have, maybe not the freedom of men, in some cases, but women like Secretary of State Madeline Albright, have been in leadership for sometime. No doubt former Secretary of State Madeline Albright reach this level of power in her party, because she had gain respect, honor, and prestige. Not always because she was a woman, but she did her job. I remember her being talked about by news casters, not paying much thought to her position. Yet it was still a big deal, but never discussed in my homelife.
Dear Heavenly Father, help us to continue to end the lies of Satan, even with the word violent in english language not adding up to the Hebrew word translation of the word violent. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
Continual Scripture Study: Hebrews 7:22-28 KJV
22 By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament.
23 And they truly were many priests, because they were not suffered to continue by reason of death:
24 But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood.
25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.
26 For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;
27 Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people's: for this he did once, when he offered up himself.
28 For the law maketh men high priests which have infirmity; but the word of the oath, which was since the law, maketh the Son, who is consecrated for evermore.
