Road To, Through And Beyond The Cross: Lesson 23
4/23/2022

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

John 21:18-25 KJV
18 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdedst thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not.
19 This spake he, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he saith unto him, Follow me.
20 Then Peter, turning about, seeth the disciple whom Jesus loved following; which also leaned on his breast at supper, and said, Lord, which is he that betrayeth thee?
21 Peter seeing him saith to Jesus, Lord, and what shall this man do?
22 Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? follow thou me.
23 Then went this saying abroad among the brethren, that that disciple should not die: yet Jesus said not unto him, He shall not die; but, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee?
24 This is the disciple which testifieth of these things, and wrote these things: and we know that his testimony is true.
25 And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.

Jesus final words in John, and his words to Peter maybe more disturbing then just a simple parable or correction to the religious leaders. It more of Peter you want to follow me, then you will be gird, lead, and carried where you don't want to go. Jesus spoke these words to symbolize the death that would glorify God, that Peter would face. Once this information is broadcasted to the disciples, Peter pointed and asked what about John. Jesus said basically is that your business, in other words what if he taries until his return, meaning after Jesus ascension until even today as you and I know it. However John did die. The point being John alive in heaven though. Meaning with human death, came his spiritual life for eternity with faith in Christ Jesus.

Is it important to know if someone is saved or what their journey of faith will be? Perhaps not, but what is important is that believers share the word of God and their testimony. Our concern how someone will die should not be ours. It is God's choice anyway. The stories of someone missing death three times in one day only to land up in a hospital on his death bed because of health complication, seems unreal and this story is only meant as allegory about physical death, physical struggles and so forth. What we may go through may be God's plan. Hard words to accept. Yet think of Peter when he finally went back into Roman knowing he would be crucified and asked the Roman leaders to hang him upside down because he was unworthy to die the way his Lord did. He found himself in shame of walking away from Rome, only to have a vision of Christ walking back into the city. Information from Christian history books about the death and life of the disciples. Peter seeing Jesus going back into Rome, knew he had to follow Jesus even if it meant him dying. Either Christ would die in Rome, or Peter would and more mayrters would follow and the word of God be spread. To leave would only show Peter a coward and no power in the name of Jesus.

We might struggle a bit with the idea of someone being able to escape the place of death and only turning around and facing death. Jesus in the garden said, "Father not my will but thine". How can we face what God has ordained if not by obedience instead of disobedience. No doubt Roman soldiers could of take Peter by force even outside the city, yet Peter choose to obey the Lord and walk back into Roman. Christ never ran from his call, but went willingly. Peter not so willingly at first. If you ever experienced a warning of the Holy Spirit surrounding death you know two things anything you do will not prevent it, if time for their departure by the will of God. However if a warning, it could mean it is revealed to enable one to be saved as well. Alot of cross up messages, no we only to do what we are called to do and lead by the Spirit to do.

No one can cheat God when it comes to his will. Yet knowing something or being prepared by God for a purpose can bring you to the knowledge of God's will. There groups out there that say we are blessed, and it true we are blessed as believers. Blessing of God rain down from heaven on the believers. Yet blessings are sometimes solution to a problem, open door, and sometimes something that reaches our hearts desire. Is visions, dreams and prophecy not only mysteries, but similiar to God directing wars against the enemy and also against his people for correction. What then is purpose of knowing the playing pieces in a game of chess, checkers, and Aggravation/Parcheesi. Perhaps to teach us what God ordains will happen for certain reasons, maybe for our understanding nothing going to happen or be allowed that God is not already in charge of. Perhaps to tell us to live our life best to our ability, holding on to Jesus, because his knowledge is greater then who we ever will be. His knowledge and understanding can not fit in our finite minds. Neither can all the miracles of God or the works of Christ be in One Bible with 66 books within it. There many things Jesus does for you and me that beyond our understanding. If we can only grasp a portion and even grasp it, the same conconclusion what God allows he allows and what He wills, He wills, and what he does to draw us to himself is greater then our knowledge of who He is.

Dear Heavenly Father, you melt our hearts in the vastness of your knowledge, and yet you show us your power through the works of your hands. Job understood it in Job 9, but he also understood not the delay in your mercy. Yet you showed Job your knowledge was greater then he could speak about. You humble him to his knees. Knowing his own weakness of faith of your provision of salvation was there for him all along through belief in you. Righteousness by faith. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Romans 11:32-36 KJV
32 For God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that he might have mercy upon all.
33 O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!
34 For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor?
35 Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again?
36 For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.

Colossians 1:26-29 KJV
26 Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:
27 To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:
28 Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus:
29 Whereunto I also labour, striving according to his working, which worketh in me mightily.
