Road To, Through And Beyond The Cross: Lesson 14
4/14/2022

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Matthew 26:57-75 KJV
57 And they that had laid hold on Jesus led him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were assembled.
58 But Peter followed him afar off unto the high priest's palace, and went in, and sat with the servants, to see the end.
59 Now the chief priests, and elders, and all the council, sought false witness against Jesus, to put him to death;
60 But found none: yea, though many false witnesses came, yet found they none. At the last came two false witnesses,
61 And said, This fellow said, I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days.
62 And the high priest arose, and said unto him, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?
63 But Jesus held his peace. And the high priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God.
64 Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.
65 Then the high priest rent his clothes, saying, He hath spoken blasphemy; what further need have we of witnesses? behold, now ye have heard his blasphemy.
66 What think ye? They answered and said, He is guilty of death.
67 Then did they spit in his face, and buffeted him; and others smote him with the palms of their hands,
68 Saying, Prophesy unto us, thou Christ, Who is he that smote thee?
69 Now Peter sat without in the palace: and a damsel came unto him, saying, Thou also wast with Jesus of Galilee.
70 But he denied before them all, saying, I know not what thou sayest.
71 And when he was gone out into the porch, another maid saw him, and said unto them that were there, This fellow was also with Jesus of Nazareth.
72 And again he denied with an oath, I do not know the man.
73 And after a while came unto him they that stood by, and said to Peter, Surely thou also art one of them; for thy speech bewrayeth thee.
74 Then began he to curse and to swear, saying, I know not the man. And immediately the cock crew.
75 And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly.

The crazy papers, what does a person who claims to be Santa Claus, Jesus, or even some type of super hero get from the government. They get the walk of shame into the mental hospital to be let go with papers that says one is mentally insane. However it is a little more insane then that you have to prove you really believe that, most can not do it. However those that believe that they are super hero, santa claus or Jesus do try and prove their sanity. Crazy world we live in, could we not do with a few more Santa clauses and super heros, but no crucifixions please, only one could pay the price for our sins that was Jesus. With the reality marker in place let us continue with scripture above. Jesus is at the palace of the priesthood and Peter is going into the servant area and sits down. High Priest Caiaphas, who prophecied Jesus most die for the nation, is looking for false witness against Jesus. None could be found at first, but the ones they found were speaking truth, that the Priesthood desired to make Jesus a liar. Jesus said that if they tore the temple down in three days he could resurrected it. How many days did it take for Jesus to be tore down. That maybe a great mystery, because his body was bruised, battered, torn, nail, and crucified his spirit was still whole. Nothing could change who his Spirit was, for on the cross he still said "Father forgive them, they know not what they do". Can God resurrect his Son, and the world could not destroy the inner being at the cross?

How many of us even when someone angers us, we still find the power to love, the power to be kind until our humanity clash with another. Until that breaking point comes for us as people. Don't think because you are saved, that you won't reach that breaking point, you are human. Yet the one in you is greater then you, meaning Christ in us means we have the power within us to overcome if we yield to Jesus and his saving grace. Yield to me and I might push you out of the way. Meaning keep up with traffic, or you might find, another trampling you, that is not me. Do I mean this physically no, I mean this in a satirical way. I do not believe in violence, however cross me at the wrong moment I am ashame to say I might snip off your nose. However you ask any person when they reach their breaking point, if Jesus does not intervene our humanity is truly going to show. Jesus however all the way to the cross never had a satirical moment but he should of but he showed humanity more compassion then they deserved. He still show people that same compassion today. We might not physically nailed Christ to the cross, but our sin still causing the spiritual beating everyday of our life and the life of others in the world. Meaning our sin, is still causing his blood to run over us covering our sin. Yet it never stop one person from failing to live for Jesus, or coming to place of unbelief in their life for a time. What does it mean then. If you find your way to the cross of Christ, then you know the forgiving power throught the blood shed for you on the cross. Yet his reply is Father forgive them for they know not what they do. Our sins are buried, and covered, but we are then resurrected to a new beginning, made into a new creation by the power of God. The physical resurrection of Christ temple was possible, not only resurrectable, but made incorruptible as his Spirit. The Priesthood understood not and so the idea of the temple being destroy and resurrected in three days sound like not only a threat but a crime to happen. He claim to be the Son of God and told them they would see the Son of God coming in a cloud. This was enough to make the High Priest say he spoke blasyphemy. By religious law they hit him and slap him across his face. Jesus would go to trial by the Roman government and found not guilty. Only for the crowd to demand Pilot to crucify him. And so he washes his hands and allows the crowd to crucify Jesus. The soldier taking him and nailing him as the crowd desired. Jesus still saying "Father forgive them".

Peter was sitting in the servant quarters, when one the Priest's maids recognized Peter and asked him "where you not with Jesus?" and Peter began his denial of knowing Jesus. Peter goes to the porch of the High Priest Palace and another maid asked him again if he was one of Jesus' disciples, only for Peter to deny once more. Then a group surround Peter asking about whether he knew Jesus, only for him to deny him a third time, and the rooster of the Palace began to crow. Upon hearing the rooster, Peter wept, because he had deny who Jesus was. Peter internal struggle far greater, for he seen miracles, heard the sermons and knew God was with Jesus. He even declared Jesus was the Christ. Yet he deny Jesus, because of going to the cross, denied him because he was not ready to go to a cross and hang beside Jesus.

Who now does not understand but Peter, who thought he would defend Christ all the way. Was it the memory of the temple being destroyed and not understanding cause Peter to fail. We know it was the will of God, for him to deny Jesus. Perhaps to teach him man will fail, power of God to resurrect not only Christ but Peter and the disciples was clear. Peter did not die, but upon Christ resurrection, he would seek the empty tomb, and his first sermon would come after with Christ ascension into heaven and the baptism of the Holy Spirit that gave power for Peter to preach and to pick up his cross and follow all the way to his own crucifixion, he would be nailed upside down after a time of preaching. Yet his journey not over, only beginning anew through the resurrection of his Spirit into heaven, where he was given a new body that was uncorruptible and his inheritance with Jesus.

The denial not lost by the other disciples that ran, but he gave strength through his own confession of sin to the others that had run from Jesus, that they too would repent and be willing to live for Jesus because he died for them, and came up out of the grave victoriously.

Dear Heavenly it is because of the resurrection, we live for you because you died for us and through your death you set man free from their sins. Forgive us as we forgive others. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Acts 1:1-15 KJV
1 The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach,
2 Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen:
3 To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:
4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.
5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.
6 When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?
7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.
8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.
10 And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;
11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.
12 Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day's journey.
13 And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James.
14 These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.
15 And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples, and said, (the number of names together were about an hundred and twenty,)

John 21:18-19 KJV
18 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdedst thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not.
19 This spake he, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he saith unto him, Follow me.
