Memorial Day 2012
by Christina Farris
5/27/2012

Memorial Day message is being taken from Hebrews. We often think of our fallen soldiers several times of year. Memorial Day being a day to decorate the graves of our fallen heroes. Men and Women that fought for the freedom to worship God, to have free speech, to live in pursuit of happiness, the right to bear arms, and the right to protest against our government. These are not the only rights we fight for. Without these rights we do not have freedom. Freedom even includes the right to have faith or no faith in God. When we force people to believe in God, it can be just as evil has forcing people to not believe. However I choose to believe. This is one reason I chose a passage in Hebrews that speaks of fallen soldiers of faith yet not having received the promise of the Messiah, but being persuade of the promise. We standing on this side of eternity received the promise as well as looking to the promise of Christ return.

Hebrews 11:24-40 KJV
24 By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter;
25 Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;
26 Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward.
27 By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.
28 Through faith he kept the passover, and the sprinkling of blood, lest he that destroyed the firstborn should touch them.
29 By faith they passed through the Red sea as by dry land: which the Egyptians assaying to do were drowned.
30 By faith the walls of Jericho fell down, after they were compassed about seven days.
31 By faith the harlot Rahab perished not with them that believed not, when she had received the spies with peace.
32 And what shall I more say? for the time would fail me to tell of Gedeon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae; of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets:
33 Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions,
34 Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens.
35 Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection:
36 And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment:
37 They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented;
38 (Of whom the world was not worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.
39 And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise:
40 God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.

To loose the freedom we have as nation is a holocaust of people. To fight for the freedom of other men and women in many countries is a holocaust of our people, but a fight we need to stand on. We do not want to war against people without the universal five freedoms. It easier to talk at a table of disagreement then to shoot with guns, and ammunition. Yet when someone evades your territory that is exactly what one must do. When someone tries to take your freedom you must stand and fight for it.

There is a right reason to fight and a wrong reason to fight. To fight over Christmas presents is a wrong reason, to fight for your rights and stand in picket lines is a good thing. It is a simple protest against the government if done correctly, to write your senator and congressmen is a good thing, but not always to them. To speak your mind to the politicians and leaders but to do it peaceful is a good thing. It helps them know what people want, it also allows them to make sound decisions in our law making as our nation changes.

To protest to God is not unusual either. Job took up his arguments before God and got put in his place. David was often reminded of the truth of why things were as they were, when he spoke back to God. Yet David knew the war both physically and verbal and when Goliath called out to Israel to come fight him David took a stand. To take stand to protect Israel is what David had to do. As a nation we need to declare why we enjoy our freedoms as we do and why we bare arms against the enemy. Speak the truth of why we honor our men and women who have fought both physical and mental battle over 236 years. Godly nation is about choices.

Dear Heavenly Father thank you for our freedom to stand up and speak up for our rights. Part of ancient practices. Part of freedom and our choices as Americans. Thank you for all our fallen heroes who fought the good fight in war and verbal skills. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
